Dr Tristan Adams Neural Neutralizer

In 2266 the Enterprise NCC 1701 orbiting Tantalus V Penal Colony, beamed aboard a crazed lunatic. Watch "Dagger of the Mind?" (Season One, The Original Series.) if you want to see one of Star Trek's best madmen on the loose and wrecking havoc on Kirk's ship! The actor Morgan Woodward (madman) is thrilling to watch!

His scene starts off with a box marked "Classified Material - Do Not Open. Bureau of Penology, Stockholm, Eursia-NE" which was beamed up from the planet. The boogy-man music has started playing and then it happens. The box lid rises slowly and quietly. A desperate creature of a man looks out.

His crazed eyes sweep around the transporter room and land on the transporter operator. His first victim. This disturbed mind in his blue jumpsuit was intent on escape from Tantalus V and its nightmare chamber of brainwashing.

A desperate look of madness grips the intruders face as he bolts over to the transporter guy and chops him down. The stowaway is the penal colony's former associate director Dr. Simon Van Gelder!

Dagger Of The Mind

Tantalas V is referred to as a rehabilitation colony by the staff who employ a number of methods in the treatment of its inmates. The attitude of treating the patients and not incarcerating the prisioners promotes a peaceful environment at Tantalas V and in the inmates.

Psychotherapy, medication, the colony's goal of peace, the layout and design of the facility, all contributed to the rehabilitation of the colony's inmates. The only problem was Dr Van Gelder, who involuntarily, ended up receiving treatments from the very programme he was helping to run.

Dr Van Gelder gains entry to the bridge of the Enterprise after overpowering and evading the ships security. Still fighting the adverse affects of the Neural Neutralizer, Van Gelder tells Kirk his sad story and asks for asylum aboard the U.S.S. Enterprise 1701.

The demented and scared doctor held the bridgecrew at phaserpoint until Kirk gave his word. Meanwhile Spock had crept up behind our crazy friend and was ready with the vulcan nerve pinch. Pretty Sly Mr Spock, you little devil you!

Dr Adams is the Director of the Tantalas V Colony. Hes the good guy or is he? He has a happy voice and likes his job.- "To all mankind, may we never find space so vast , planets so cold, hearts and minds so empty that we cannot fill them with love and warmth."

Dr Adams instigated new experimental procedures using his neural neutralizer on the penal colonys more violent cases. So why did he use it on his good buddy and associate director Dr Simon Van Gelder?

Symbol of Peace: The Tantalas Colony Logo is displayed on all staff's blue tunics. It reflects the peaceful colony goals from all colony experts. In the logo, a large white hand gently holding a white dove between the thumb and forefinger with the sun blazing in the background, symbolizes the colony's effort of bringing peace to its unhappy inmates, as well as hope for their future recovery.

The current Director Dr. Tristan Adams took much pleasure in using the Neural Neutralizer and watching his "patients" writhing in pain, claimed that a failed experiment rendered Van Gelder insane. This was a cover up to hide his needless abuse of the technology which leads to Van Gelders rampage aboard the Enterprise. Dr.Van Gelder was far from being at peace when he escaped from his encounters with the neural neutralizer.

Dr Adams greets captain Kirk and Dr Helen Noel with a smile and drinks all around, free of course! All is well on Tantalas or so it seems.

Even Lethe a former inmate, now colony therapist declared " I Love My Job - I was another person. Hateful, malignant" It was the way she said it. She sounded programmed. Poor woman. She must have received a good dose of the neural neutralizer completely transforming her into the emotionless automaton before Adams introduced her to captain Kirk and Helen Noel. Dr Adams politely cut her off before she said too much. Lethe was one of Adam's successful cases and came accross as being oddly funny.

Live Long and Prosper Trekkers!
