Edward Ott my blogger pal fused trekkie synergy into my brain cells recently and got me thinking. His question was straight to the point, "so any opinions on the new movie that they are making?" My answer to your question Edward is: I've watched enough clips of JJ Abrams to know I believe in what he's doing. I was initially sceptical of him at first because he confessed to being a Star Wars fan at an early age.
He came clean at the Star Trek convention at Comic Con 2007 so I guess we have to forgive him for being drawn to the dark side of the Force. Star Warsians and Trekkies may operate at opposite ends of the galactic rainbow but its a unique experience being a Science Fiction fan, especially when we meet at the conventions.
I realised only someone with integrity would reveal his dark side sins to the fans because JJ Abhrams obviously cares about the fans, besides it creates a happy buzz about the whole Star Trek XI movie experience when showbiz people share stuff like that with us.
Zachary Quinto and Leonard Nimoy.
In a statement of his J J Abrams says: "If there's something I'm dying to see, it's the brilliance and optimism of (Gene) Roddenberry's world brought back to the big screen," said Abrams. "Alex and Bob wrote an amazing script that embraces and respects Trek canon, but charts its own course. Our goal is to make a picture for everyone — life-long fans and the uninitiated. Needless to say, I am honored and excited to be part of this next chapter of Star Trek."
Its interesting to note that "Star Trek XI" won't just be a film for trekkers. Bring along your whole family because according to the top brass it'll be a picture for everyone. Its a fair bet JJ will produce a a movie with exceptional attension to detail, a wicked starship USS Enterprise 1701 commanded by Christopher Pike, (Kirk's predecessor)filled by Bruce Greenwood. The dictates of my illogical human gut instincts seem to be telling me that the USS Enterprise may be involved in a showdown or rescue mission of some kind, with an elder Spock attempting to change the timeline.
The movie has to stick to Trek canon, I can hear all the non trekkies sighing *grin* and the villian named "Nero" played by Eric Bana will have an accomplice. Its likely Nero travels to the past to create strife and upheaval for the crew of the USS Enterprise 1701. Spock discovers his plans and trys to to stop him, at the very least warn Captain Pike and his younger pals of the future USS Enterprise who have'nt even met MR Spock yet and are'nt long out of the Starfleet Academy. I guess some mind melding will be in order!
According to IMDB's cast its evident a missile launcher and vulcan bullies come into play, so I'm figuring maybe one of the villians takes a pot shot at the USS Enterprise and the great bird of the galaxy crash lands on a planet somewhere! Of course missile launchers have been used in past star trek movies to blow up stars and in Star Trek 3 the Genesis device was the ultimate "doomsday weapon" according to Lord Kruge so I'll let your minds run wild on that one.
In the mini trailer we see the ship on the ground and its natural to assume shes being built from scratch but what if the USS Enterprise is only being repaired after a terrible crash? Here a list of the cast from IMDB to whet your appetites.

Abrams would naturally say this movie is for "everyone" ;)
I guess we'll only know if this film is any good when it's made.
First I'd like to say I totally love your blog!
Second, I am beyond excited for the new movie and I have full confidence in J.J. Abrams and whethter or not it will be a film for the whole family..my hope is that it will create a whole new generation of Trekkies (or Trekkers)!!
Yes let's hope Quinto does not have to look at his hand when he makes the Vulcan "live long and prosper" sign! I agree with you that the chemistry is probably there, all 3 of them are incredible actors.
Here's an interesting web page comparing the old actors with the new!

Enjoy! Tal
Sooooooooo lookin' forward to this movie.
Hey how much fun was the conversatoin with these 2 actors. They just look like great guys to hang with.
Now this is where I'm stuck: what is at the root of the tension between Trekkies and Star Warsians. Why can't we be friends?
Trekkies have their 642.5—meter long Galaxy-class Federation flagship armed with photon torpedoes and phasers. Star Warsians have their 1,600-meter long Imperial Star Destroyer armed with laser cannons and several gun turrets commanded by the most nefarious villain in the universe. The question is will good triumph over evil and which force is king in the eyes of the viewer? Darth Vader destroys lifeforms without mercy. Captain Picard on the other hand negotiates and would never extinguish a lifeform if it outlived its usefulness.
Do you see Pjaldin? Kirk's a different story but you get the gist which is why I like Star Trek and Vaders ruthlessness. We have Q and Darth Vader has his darkside powers, so if it came down to it, which sci fi entity is the most powerful in the universe? and which starship (Vaders or Picards) rules the galaxy over all others? The debate continues....read my Star Trek vs Star Wars post.
Lets break the ice and make First Contact. I'm trekkie spacerguy and as a citizen of the Federation of Planets may I extend my hand in friendship towards you but wait..... what have I done? *Big Grin* If your'e a Starwarsian then I'm crossing over into the darkside! NOOOOOOOO! What have I done???? Will I become infected now.....Why me? Help me please Trekkies save me, I've been corrupted by darkside powers.
