The Triumph of the Future

Star Trek's original creators invented a TV Science Fiction series bursting with imagination. Its underlying concept embraced a future about the triumph of good over evil. Earth is a unified, peaceful planet (belonging to a Federation) where hunger, war and poverty no longer exist. The job of the starship USS Enterprise NCC 1701 and her crew was to spread that democratic, philosophy to the stars, seek out new lifeforms and boldly go in peace.

ENCOUNTER AT FARPOINT

Star Trek's future is a place where man has ceased squabbling, where Earth has been transformed into a garden, where robots ten times stronger and smarter than us strive to be human. Its an optimistic future, an utopian one and its not too much of a stretch to imagine that people love watching Star Trek, because at some level, they'd like to live in a place like that.

Gene's vision of the future is one we'd all like to see.

We shall have this at some point in the future, but looking at the world now and the horrific events taking place lately, it seems unlikely. Change will come, we just need to be patient, and to continue to work towards that goal as well.

I've always been just a little bit jealous of the people in Star Trek. I feel like I'd live longer and be far more prosperous in their world than in ours.

That hopeful message is, hopefully, Star Trek's enduring legacy.

It would be nice. It would be better than nice.

Yes, and may the force be with you. Oh--sorry, that's Skywalker. Seriously, Gene was a visionary. Hope his view of the future is viable.

....a dream that became a reality and spread throughout the stars - Captain Kirk's words from in Whom Gods Destroy gives us a glimmer of that hope in one nice short sentence.
