Shatner's never watched an episode? Now that is ironic.

I’m surprised Shatner never saw an episode...weird. Now I need to know what Roddenbury did to get past the censors.

All those episodes and Shatner never watched one? wow...I cannot imagine Spock being red.

Yeah, I believe that.

Have you seen the show Better Late Than Never? Shatner travels the world with three other older actors. I bet he's not watching this show, either.

Shatner never watched an episode? And a red, satanic Spock? Oh dear.

I've seen that show Liz mentioned. It's really funny. I'm sure he doesn't watch those episodes.

Actually, there was an opportunity for an interracial kiss in an earlier episode, “The Alternative Factor”, but the network balked. I wrote a post on the subject but our friend Maurice Mitchell wrote a better one: http://www.thegeektwins.com/2014/04/the-first-star-trek-interracial-kiss.html.

How did Paramount and CBS screw up the 50th anniversary? I don't think I heard about that.

NBC wanted to pass on Spock because in the first pilot he looked satanic. Is it somehow actually because they were basing their reaction off what they'd read rather than watched?

Star Trek was not the ratings failure the networks wanted fans to believe so they were wrong on that score, guys. When Nielson technology was set up to measure family reactions in the 60's, the black box failed to register young Trekkie geeks and couples who were watching also. So NBC executives panicked, demanding Roddenberry, "Get rid of the guy with the ears." Spock's satanic appearance upset viewers on black and white tv sets, they said. So Roddenberry changed his red face to green. Star Trek's creator never surrendered, never gave up on Mr Spock and the ears survived!
