Nichelle Nichol's encounter with MLK.

In 1966 Nichelle Nichols starred as Lt Nyota Uhura for three seasons in Star Trek's classic series going boldly where no woman has gone before. Heres the audio with Nichelle Nichol's telling her story, its quite fascinating really. For some reason the stars were smiling on Nichelle that faithful weekend when she ran into her biggest fan, Martin Luther King at a Los Angeles NAACP dinner.

During conversation it emerged Nichelle had decided to close her hailing frequencies once and for all. The news didn't go down well with Gene Roddenberry or Martin Luther King who told Nichelle the stark facts of reality. In essense Uhura's character was too important! She showed the nation on tv a universe where African-Americans were seen as they should be seen, Equals. She couldn't abandon the Enterprise now!

Hailing Frequencies Open, trekkers.

Star Trek's 2013 movie sequel

Recently Robert Orci confirmed that Benedict Cumberbatch isn't playing Gary Mitchell in Star Trek's 2013 movie sequel. In his interview with Trekmovie Robert Orci brings us up to warpspeed. For now Star Trek's writers are trying their best not to talk about who Benedict Cumberbatch is playing. You have to hand it to them. This kind of movie chicanery builds more intense trek suspense.

In his exclusive interview he reveals some spoilers about Star Trek 2013 new characters cleverly diverting us away from Karl Urban's villainous statement. Heres what we know.

1. We can expect our first sequel trailer to be rolled out in the fall.
2. Trek's writers are down to final names for the movie.
3. Alice Eve is playing a Canon Character.
4. Noel Clarke and Nanzeen Contractor are New Characters.
5. Peter Weller and Joseph Gatt are New Characters too.
6. and the Biggie...Benedict Cumberbatch is playing a Canon Character!
7. The identity of Star Trek's villain is still Top Secret.
8. We do know Alice Eve and Cumberbatch will be playing unique characters from Star Trek the original series!
9. Some have said over at the studio that Star Trek's sequel is better than the prequel.
10. Gary Mitchell isn't a runner but what about Khan?
11. ILM are adding the special effects right now.
12. Team Abrams are trying to preserve the movie experience by keeping it under wraps for as long as possible!
13. We will see James T. Kirk calling the shots from the USS Enterprise captain's chair.
14. Star Trek 2013 will be shot in 3D format.

ScienceFiction.com suspect 'Karl Urban of having punked fans. So there you have it trekinators. In the good spirit of star trek we got punk'd, good, hehe.

Star Trek 2's latest villain?

Photobucket

Star Trek's latest Enterprising sequel is definitely steeped in a cloak of mystery except now the shields are weakening! I never thought I'd hear myself say, Yesss! Great, Shields Weakening!!! But its true! Earlier this year Star Trek Sci Fi Blog dished the trek about whos gunning the good guys in Star Trek 2's sequel, except we were wrong.

So whos the bad guy? We hear you ask.

FACT: Fans know Star Trek 2's sequel wrapped up filming by June 2012. Star Trek 2 is set to hit cinemas in May 2013.

At Trekmovie Lieutenant Alex Kurtzman stuck to his phasers backing secretive Trek Bosses, whose production plans DIDN'T include spilling the beans about Star Trek or about the movies latest Villain.

FACT: So we've been told little until now...

Set your phasers on silver eyed esper with delusions of Godhood. hehe!

FACT: Apparently, a little birdie resurrected Gary Mitchel!

But who did this and why?

FACT: Speculation is running rife on the internet about why Karl Urban who plays our cranky Dr McCoy dropped his hypo. Rumor has it, Bones kinda blabbed about Star Trek 2's big bad wolf at SFX.

In June Kurtzman stated at Trek Movie 'theres going to be NO Star Trek for San Diego's Comic Con' in July. Something tells me trek's bosses will be sending out damage control parties to Comic Con? The good doctor has given us enough cordrazine high to last us well into 2013.

Urban's slipup at SFX was probably unintentional despite complimenting Cumberbatch, it doesn't take a trekkie to figure out who's going to take on the crew of Star Trek's USS Enterprise NCC 1701.

"He's awesome, he's a great addition, and I think his Gary Mitchell is going to be exemplary."

I can scarcely believe this news is on the web.

Spock Inspects Uhura

It doesn't take a trekkie to realize this cunning little vulcan is up to something. Clearly by all accounts a photo-shop. Its obvious the vulcan's fingers are probing Uhura's Starfleet uniform seeking out new lifeforms purely for scientific research, hehe.

But decide for yourselves. Is Mr Spocks 'personal examination' on Uhura suspect or is the vulcan enjoying himself? I mean look at where he's placed his hands.

But all joking aside... really ask yourself...

Does Spock's investigation counts as a proper Mind Meld?

Star Trek's Alien Anomalies

Why does Science Fiction flow through our veins? When I look back on Kirk, Spock and Dr Mc Coy's adventures in Star Trek's classic series seeking out new lifeforms on new civilisations, I realise I am one of millions of fans experiencing pure unforgettable joy.

Look at this scratchy old picture of the USS Enterprise NCC 1701. Now put yourself in a shuttlecraft following her at warp speed.

In my youth I loved watching cosmic starlines whizzing by especially when the starship USS Enterprise NCC 1701 was in full speed pursuit of the bad guys in the enemy alien ship. I've tweaked the photo so we can enjoy the awesomeness of the USS Enterprise in a high speed race, hehe. I still get weird sensations when Kirk orders the impossible from Scotty pushing the warp engines to breaking limit. Despite his tough task master Scotty has a secret formula.

GEORDI "I told the Captain I would have this diagnostic done in an hour."
SCOTTY "And how long will it really take you?"
GEORDI "An hour!"
SCOTTY "Oh, you didn't tell him how long it would really take, did you?"
GEORDI "Of course I did."
SCOTTY "Oh, laddie, you have a lot to learn if you want people to think of you as a miracle worker."

SCOTTY "Starship captains are like children. They want everything right now and they want it their way. The secret is to give them what they need, not what they want.'

When I was little I believed Star Trek was real. It just had to be! At first I puzzled over why so many black scratches flickered over the tv set.

Ahh Haa! I told myself the camera lens was getting dirty from space dust!

Mr Spock would be proud of my pure logical reasoning because space is a dusty place. Awe sets in and my fears for the film crew soon dissolve. It was logical to presuppose that a camera guy was somewhere behind the scenes in zero space gravity doing a tough job. My admiration for the dude filming Kirk's flagship switched to sheer amazement.

Isn't he great, without him there'd be no Star Trek!!!

More black scratches flickered over the tv screen which I accepted as actual space phenomena encountered by the Enterprise on her heroic missions. I grew to love these mysterious encounters because in a way it was like seeing UFOs for real, hehe. One thing was clear in my young mind. Now we have scientific evidence caught on camera!

I got excited at the prospect of the USS Enterprise running into more alien anomalies but what about the camera guy? It was only a matter of time before the klingons would show which meant only one thing.

'Red Alert, all hands to Battle Stations!'

I soon forgot about the camera guy and besides the Enterprise was way too fast. The film crew were probably in direct contact with Scotty I mused. The Klingons will never catch up either because Mr Spock's too smart and Scotty knows his engines inside out.

Are the public ready to know and accept Alien Anomalies as real life UFO's from strange new worlds?

Star Trek Voyager's Clown

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself! The only thing we have to fear is fear itself!

Your a lost space explorer aboard the starship Voyager. I tuned in each week way back in 1995 and enjoyed Star Trek Voyager's epic sense of solidarity. Heres a crew severed 70,000 light years away from their Starfleet family and friends stuck in Delta Quadrant! Imagine looking out a porthole and seeing the stars whizzing by, wouldn't you feel a weird hungering ache calling you home? Voyagers crew are pitted against several alien races and gain popularity when the Borg arrive on the scene. Heres my five cents.

Nevertheless I'm willing to explore my humanity. Take off your clothes! Don't be alarmed I won't hurt you.

Seven of Nine is the beautiful Borg babe who definitely pushed all the right buttons replacing Kes and sparring occasionally with the EMH played by Robert Picardo. The good doctors sharp bedside tongue is programmed to counter wisecracks easily and deflate egos in a flash, LOL. Picardo confrontational exchanges with the 'Clown' are sweet. (See end)

"How am I supposed to negotiate if I don't know what you're thinking?" CLOWN

"I have a very trustworthy face. EMH

(Someone takes the Clown's hand and lifts it away from Kim.)

EMH: Excuse me, you're not holding that properly. Correct positioning of the index finger is necessary for optimal dexterity.

(The EMH throws the scalpel away.)

Captain Janeway delivers the goods when shes thrown in at the deep end provided squeaky gets her usual high intake of caffeine. She doesn't mind beaming into dangerous away missions either unlike her First Officer. I believe some fans found her nasal voice just a bit too much to handle, LOL but on the whole Janeway is strong willed and sound because the crew believe in her resourcefulness to get them home.

"I don't compromise with Borg."

"Listen to me very carefully because I'm only going to say this once. Coffee. Black."

Chakotay is a great one for the vision quests with the quiet voice. Before serving as Voyager's first officer on her 7 year voyage back to Earth, Chakotay resigned Starfleet after years of service in order to join the Maquis to defend his home colony against the Cardassians. While the First Officer's native american tattoo fits with this tough guy persona, lets face facts. Chakotay is the Maquis middleman who kept the peace aboard Voyager.

Chakotay to Voyager! Emergency Beam out!

The vulcan Mr Tuvoc makes a fair go as Voyager's Tactical and Chief of Security. His predecessors Commander Data (TNG) and Mr Spock (TOS) definitely tower over Voyager's pointy ears. I guess legends are tough to live up to, still it wouldn't have been the same without good ol' Tuvoc played by Tim Russ.

'Structure. Logic. Function. Control. A structure cannot stand without a foundation. Logic is the foundation of function. Function is the essence of control. I am in control. I am in control.'

Jennifer Lien is a really nice, lovely gal. Kes's fascinating Ocampa spirit is historically linked with the Caretaker who felt a duty of obligation to care for her species. It was Kes who freed the EMH from a second rate life of deactivated oblivion. Still I was relieved when she blossomed into a radiant non-corporeal lifeform pushing Voyager 9,500 light years closer to home.

So because he's a hologram, he doesn't have to be treated with respect, or any consideration at all?

Neelix is a good friend to Kes and the ships moral officer. He really looks like an furry oddball but his cheerful character radiates soul that lifts everyones spirits including viewers. His meals weren't half bad either, Hehe.

B'Ellana Torres is the Chief Engineer of the USS Voyager whose happy knack with the hypo spanner saves Voyager from a good few scrapes. Its too bad her Klingon feelings are at odds with her humanity which makes it tough for her to open up about her feelings, like Spock B'Ellana is torn between cultures. Lets just agree that Voyager's Chief is the black sheep of the family. I like her because she has interesting quirks and her fights with Paris are amusing.

Harry Kim teamed up with Tom Paris because together Voyager's duo livened up life aboard the intrepid starship, Voyager. At the best of times Harry could be annoying, hence his nickname 'Starfleet' courtesy - B'llana Torres. Now think back to Wang's stellar performances, Yes I'm trying to be the good guy here, remember that! Lets take Voyagers 23rd episode in season 2 which was a really chilling episode.

Trekkies love Voyagers episode of 'The Thaw' because 'Mr Fear' finally gets his comeuppance. The manic clown's masterful reign of terror is delightfully shellshocking and thrilling. Despite the fear, the Clown character is designed to instill in his victims this is one episode not to miss!

Perhaps the clown played by Michael Mckean just dazzled us all freezing Kim's technical mind in total fear. Don't tell Janeway I was beating up on Harry, she'll never forgive me. Hes like a son to her, LOL.

How many stars are you giving Star Trek Voyager?

Versatile Blogger Award from Film Sketchr

Last Tuesday I felt a warm trekkie emotion when Filmsketchr chose me for the Versatile Blogger Award! So I want to send my heartfelt thanks to Maurice for choosing me. I would also like to pay tribute to my good pal Nova Dove who inspired me to write my first sci-fi story way back during our early blogging days in 2006. Now according to Tradition, the Versatile Blogger Award Recipients follow rules. Here are 13 blogs including seven interesting trek sensations about me for you to enjoy.

12.The Great Canadian Model Builders Webpage
13.My Star Trek Scrapbook

I made this graphic for Star Trek Sci Fi Blog and super imposed the USS Enterprise NCC 1701 into the corner which should bag Scottys approval. I am indebted to my good pal Nova Dove without whose encouragement Star Trek Sci Fi Blog would not be here today.

Every Star Trek fan must own a real bone fide Starfleet communicator, otherwise you're just a poor excuse for a cadet! What are you waiting for? Its time to lock and load, grab your communicator on the double or Spock will throw your butt out the airlock, lol.

C is for Chekov. 'I can do zat,' 'I can do zat.' I wonder why Walter Koenig had to wait all this time to get his Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Walter's star is scheduled to be installed on the 10th of September 2012.

Whenever I'm confronted with a puzzle on our small homeworld, simple logic begs me to ask how would pointy ears react in the exact same circumstances? LOL.

Ralph McQuarrie's creativity can be appreciated in lots of movies including Star Trek III and IV but Star Wars has to take the prize, sniff. I sometimes wonder what will become of Ralph's wicked enterprise starship.....

I made this! She's got space running lights and sound effects too.

I love the original version of the Firm's song "Star Trekking Across the Universe" so I've added the lyrics in the link so you can join in the fun and sing along but don't forget to come back and tell Spacerguy about your awesome Star Trekking Experience!

He's Dead Jim.

In Star Trek's 'The Enemy Within' its always fun warping back to that awesome moment when the chief Medical Officer Dr Leonard H. McCoy utters 'HE'S DEAD JIM' for the very first time. The good doctors emotional catchphrases have inevitably infected the timeline.

"I'm a doctor not a bricklayer,"
"Do something, Spock!"
"He's dead Jim."
I'm a doctor not a moonshuttle conductor!
'I'm a Doctor not an escalator!'
I'm a Doctor not a magician Spock...

The doctor always says whats on his mind especially when the cool calm Mr Spock is playing pointy eared games on him, lol.

The green blooded second in command knows McCoy can't help himself but I suspect Spock secretly enjoys winding him up or is it the other way around?

"I am a Scientist doctor, emotions are alien to me." - States Spock quite logically followed by the good doctors snappy quip,

"In a pigs eye!"

"Really doctor, you must learn to govern your passions. they will be your undoing" - replies Spock. The clever vulchie is so darn good at keeping his cool in an emergency except when Dr McCoy yanks his chain. Four decades later fans still can't get enough of these 'McCoyisms' because McCoys rave scenes are pure fun to watch.

What was Dr McCoy referring to when he said 'HE'S DEAD JIM' for the very first time in Star Trek's 'The Enemy Within?'

1. A Flying Pig?

2. Scotty?

3. A Squealing Tribble?

4. An alien four legged horndog?

5. Sulu?

Can you remember why the lifeform died?

1. Lightening?

2. Vaporised?

3. Killed during the line of duty?

4. Transporter malfunction?

5. Poisoned?

Trek long and Prosper, Trekinators! LOL.
