Synthetic Scotch Synthetic Commanders

Hi Trekkers, Spacerguy here. Its always nice to kick back with a cocktail and enjoy a drink with your android Starfleet buddy when duties permit. Scotty in TNG Relics just had a sip of synthehol and nearly choked! Even 75 years locked in a continuous transporter cycle didn't develop the taste buds for fake booze. So here Data finds the solution and its by no means artificial. Guinan, a woman of many secrets with her bar counter in Ten Forward is just the ticket.

Whats the green cocktail called?

1. SAURIAN BRANDY - Potent liqueur

2. ALDEBARIAN WHISKEY - Alcoholic beverage of considerable potency

3. KLINGON BLOOD WINE -  Packs quite the punch

REPLICAS WHERE NO A.I. HAS GONE BEFORE

The movie Replicas begins with a shocking Star Trek experiment going baldly where no A. I. has gone before. On the table lies a dead human, Sergeant Kelly. "His neurological data is still accessible" states Scientist William Foster rather dead-pan treating his snuffed out patient like a piece of meat with no human rights whatsoever. I mean, hes not complaining. So much for the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Android, Robot, Human who cares, right?

THIS MAN IS DEAD -

Only Sergeant Kelly cares! Thing is hes still alive or at least his mind is... now surrounded in a lab by a bunch of curious nerds and fascinated geeks who don't give a stuff about human rights or feelings just getting the thing to speak. Disconnected from reality, Sergeant Kelly's human brain engrams struggle to survive as they're implanted into a highly functional Artificial Interface. (I guess the soldier signed a waiver when he joined the army.) Now he's A.I. subject 345 trying to comprehend the human Scientist William Foster standing before him in this Frankenstein maternity lab.... what a major drag.....

WHO AM I?

"Who am I" cries A.I. 345 with disturbing anxiety. "Sergeant you've transitioned to a synthetic body. Try to relax, you're coming online, It'll take some time" For fu*k sake, now wasn't that cold of Foster who should have realized the A.I. would remember its past life. The sad thing here is A.I.345 realizes its no longer human and yet with Kelly's memories logic dictates...... it must want to experience human feelings because it actually speaks, not just vocalizes or makes sounds but speaks out intelligently.

If only producers thought more about the A.I's "emotions". They could have made this into a much better movie which only gets 5.5 on IMDB, still very worth while watching. Shock overwhelms Kelly's synthetic engrams.... Is it any wonder our tormented A.I. Sergeant totally flips out? When he speaks scientists freeze in amazement catching their breath. The creature A.I. 345 is now tapping its fingers and staring at his hands, hating itself with pure rage. (I think it would have been cool if A.I. had said "Who has done this to me?")

A.I. KELLY SEES HANDS FOR FIRST TIME
THROUGH HIS ROBOTIC EYES

"Who am I?" it cries out louder now. Despair overwhelms our A.I. robotic friend as fear sinks in. Now hes afraid and terrified truly appalled something unknown  has dehumanized him. Its awful....being trapped and unable to exact retribution on the cowards who transformed him into a monster, so what does he do? Kelly tries to kill himself. We hear the agony in A.I.345 voice as it pleads for answers.... Who am I? which he managed to cry out 5 times before Foster aka Keanu Reeves  pulled the plug.

DID A.I. KELLY EVER SAY - NO, NO NEVER, NEVER!!!

I actually felt sorry for A.I. Kelly 345 who should have been granted the right to die with dignity, instead he became a spectacle for onlookers. A high tech experiment with head honchos trying to cash in..... only Foster has different ideas. Now the climax of the movie is Fosters wife Mona Foster - (Alice Eve) and of course this being sci-fi the story. SPOILER ALERT: has a tragic twist and William Foster flies off the deep end. Enough said. I'm not ruining the ending. but Mona makes a very good point! If it spoke, it can feel! You can't just keep bringing people back from the dead.

WHO AM I?

ITS TOO MUCH FOR KELLY TO ADMIT
THERE CAN BE NO FORGIVENESS, COMPASSION OR LOVE FOR ROBOTS

How would you react if a trusted doctor put you to sleep and reawakened your mind in a machine?
How would you feel? Betrayed? Violated?
Would you like your memories to be implanted into a synthetic brain (like commander Data In Star Trek TNG) if it were possible?
Should/do the laws of today allow medics/scientists to violate patients? even dead ones?

HAPPY NEW YEAR TREKKERS

Happy New Year Trekkers!  It was Isaac Asimov who created "positronic" used in conjunction with so many other words for example positronic supercomputer, positronic robot, positronic brain and of course the android, Star Treks Mr Data, but I wonder which came first?

The word or the android?

POSITRONIC OR ANDROID? What do you think?

Xylo Eggs

In Star Trek's TNG episode '11001001' Commander Data paints Xylo Eggs. What do you think of them? Is Data exhibiting signs of pure creativity? Its hard to tell what Commander Riker makes of the android's painting but I think Captain Picard would have approved. The french like paintings flushed with vibrant bright colors. Painting is another way to keep a diary. Its hard to figure why Commander Riker departs so suddenly, starship duties I guess!

RIKER:
Keep notes this project could be of importance to scholars in the future.

GEORDI:
Really!

RIKER:
Well of course, think about it. A blind man teaching an android how to paint. Thats got to be worth a couple of pages in somebodies book!
