Star Trek TNG Blu Ray

2012 is an exciting time trek fans because its our Star Trek's TNG 25th anniversary. So grab your communicators and spread the word. StarTrek.com has confirmed each of the 178 episodes spanning The Next Generation's seven seasons will be transferred to true high-definition 1080p for release in the Blu-ray format, starting with season 1 in 2012.

After the successful remastered release of Star Trek TOS in 2006, Star Trek's TNG Blu-Ray HD release is finally materializing with a taste of trek to come. Its like the bugs have been wiped off the windscreen making this trek the first time for fans to boldly experience.... 'The Next Level' with its 4 sample Blu Ray episodes.

Encounter at Farpoint Part 1 and 2.
Sins of the Father and
The Inner Light.

Blu-Ray.com has posted 40 BLU-RAY screenshots of TNG series in HD. Apparently Trekkie requests for Star Trek THE NEXT GENERATION sent Paramount on a new mission. To seek out and explore TNG camera negatives, transferring the originals from lower resolution video, visual effects and sound to HD Blu-Ray. Trekkies naturally want to experience the 'higher frontier' so Paramount/CBS listened and are making it so! Amazon and Blu-ray.com will be fully stock and loaded by 31st January 2012.

The good news is Trekcore and Collider have also confirmed that all 178 episodes of TNG will be transferred to true high-definition 1080p for release in blu-ray format in season sets starting with season one 'later in 2012'. You'll find the whole story here but don't forget Spacerguy, remember I'm doing this for you guys.

The Next Level features four episodes: Encounter at Farpoint's two parter with the heroic USS Enterprise-D crew battling the odds led by Captain Picard resisting the omnipotent Q entity. (Everyone knows Q is nuts.) Whoever said resistance is futile?

'You will now answer to the charge of being a grievously savage race!' Picard toughs it out.'Grievously savage could mean anything, I will answer only specific charges'

Sins of the Father is the Emmy winner for outstanding Art Direction with Warrior Worf ready for pay back, however this episode begins with Klingon Commander Kurn participating in the 'Starfleet Exchange Programme.' It isn't long before the Enterprise crew are seriously peeved off with the guy. On the Klingon homeworld Worf challenges his fathers enemy with this episode marking a turning point for the Klingon.

'I am a Klingon, if you doubt it, a demonstration can be arranged.'

'I am Worf, son of Mogh. I have come to challenge the lies that have been spoken of my father.'

Inner light is a popular Star Trek favourite and Hugo Award winner for the best dramatic presentation. Chief Medical Officer Beverly Crusher rushes to a stricken Captain Picard who wakes up and experiences a whole new life spanning nearly 40 years. A woman, Elaine tells him shes his wife! Five whole years pass and Picard has to come to terms with the fact that hes just Kamin the Iron Weaver.

'I just don't know the risk of shutting down the beam.' Commander Riker wants answers fast. 'I'm not willing to let this thing keep drilling into him.'

I bet you're eager to discover what our TNG trek heroes look like on blu-ray HD dvd? Well then its high time for a trekkie splurge, isn't it?

Majel Barrett's X Factor.

What was the name of Lwaxana Troi's former valet (before Mr Homn) who had pornographic thoughts of her and was dismissed? Lwaxanna could read him like a book and mentions him in Star Trek's TNG "Haven" episode.

Spooky Science Fiction Thrills

In 2364 Captain Picard nearly leapt to deadly sci fi oblivion caused by a dicey experiment involving space, time and thought. Picture Captain Jean-Luc Picard gasping for air, as the cold abyss of outerspace squeezed the living life out of his body, much like that horrible aliens creature which Lt. Ripley fed into the maw of space. I leapt up from my seat for joy when that freaky mutant got iced. It was Yesss! Yesss! Yesss! So long sucker.

However, Jean Luc's death would have left Trekkies weeping everywhere. He's our last hope for peace in the Federation. Sniff. The Darth Vaders of the universe would have the place in complete ruins!

I love the Picard doorway just hanging in space, with cosmic starlines whizzing by the terrified captain as he clings to the Enterprise for dear life. I get a thrilling wave of terrific excitement when I watch this. Patrick Steward's acting sci-fi presence clearly demonstrates how spooky and exciting outerspace can be. Great job captain.

It was really a clueless propulsion expert Lt. Kosinski and his "traveller" buddy with his unpronounceable name, who are responsible for the U.S.S. Enterprise's mysterious journey to galaxy M33. Kosinski's brainless calculations actually had everyone confused for ages! LOL. Except the "BOY" Yes, geeky Wesley. Still the Enterprise ended up 2,700,000 light years from home and guess what? The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701-D was lost!. Now how could that have happened?

Its not often you get to see Picard weirded out by the laws physics aboard his own starship. The guy's actually afraid!!! You see it on his face. The episode Where No One Has Gone Before is loosely based on Diane Duane's Star Trek novel, The Wounded Sky. Except its with Captain James T. Kirk commanding. Yes, that old spacehound. Kirk has star trekked where no man has gone before!

Reasons why Kirk is better than Picard.

Here are reasons why Kirk is better than Picard. However before you take my word for it, Trekkie citizens of the Federation, warp over to startrekkie.com who believe Picard is better than Kirk!

You tell me, is James Tiberius Kirk or Jean Luc Picard the superior commander!! Remember Kirk has saved Earth from total extermination! but don't be swayed, Here are my reasons why Kirk is better than Picard:

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television.

Kirk faces his enemies in a final showdown, face to face and does'nt fear beaming down to planets.

Kirk knows how to defeat hostile aliens with Federation firepower and is'nt bothered about blowing them to smithereens either.

Not so on Picard's Enterprise. Jean Luc first finds out what Deanna Troi is feeling, next Picard asks for suggestions and then orders Yar to hail the enemy ship!!!

Kirk meanwhile has already given the word. FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!!!

Kirk would personally throw Wesley out the airlock!

But Picard has given Wesley Crusher countless second chances despite the crew of the Federation's flagship USS Enterprise being placed in mortal danger by the nerdlings experiments.

Kirk does'nt believe in double talk, but Picard likes informing and squealing his way out of trouble.

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television.

Picard doesn't like to get his hands dirty, fighting mere mortals or punching. He leaves that to Worf, Riker or Data, while he waits on the bridge.(I have never seen Picard kill Klingons in hand to hand combat. Thats a joke.)

Kirk fights bad dudes all over the galaxy. Kruge was one and he snuffed out Kirk's only son David. Klingon Kruge was shoved over a cliff edge to his firey death for his trouble.

Kirk earned himself a reputation at Starfleet Academy as the only cadet to have beaten the "no-win" Kobayashi Maru scenario.

Kirk has more awards and commendations than Picard.

Kirk is prepared for hand to hand fisticuffs, but Picard prefers to converse in conversation.

Kirk seduces women but Picard shouts at them. Remember Lilly?

Kirk has a real warm human heart but Picard has a cold heart of steel.

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television.

Kirk exposes plots, foils Klingons, fights baddies, blows up ships and has saved Earth.

Picard is the good captain guy who maintains the peace through peaceful negotiations aboard the Federation's mighty flagship Enterprise.

Kirk saved Earth by repopulating the whale species with George and Gracie and introduced them to 23rd century Earth.

Kirk's the young guy with hair. Picard is the old bald guy. (Remember I'm still skylarking.)

Kirk calls the shots on his ship with his second in command never telling him what to do. Science Officer Spock was Kirk's second in command and respected the chain of command.

Picard got himself kidnapped ten times!

Picard is French and has worn tights. Kirk never wears tights!

Kirk drinks Romulan Ale and Saurian Brandy. Captain Picard favourite drink is Earl Grey Tea!

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television.

Kirk saves his crew members (Spock's Brain) (Search For Spock) but Picard is ruthless with his. Remember Ensign Lynch who got assimulated by the Borg? Picard yanked out Lynch's neuroprocessor in front of Lilly Sloan, whose shocked response is "Tough Luck eh?"

In one alternate future, Picard captains a more agressive Starfleet vessel during prolonged unrest with the Klingons. Kirk had to do battle with Klingons all the time during the 23rd century.

Kirk knew Tribbles made good detectives and were good at rooting out Klingon spies. These warm furry creatures with no teeth invaded Kirk's Enterprise and K7 but the price was well worth it. Trekkie.com believe Tribbles would'nt stand a chance against Picard. Everyone at least deserves one chance?

Robotic Heroes

What makes a robot tick? or even an android. Commander Data of the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D for instance is immortal, so he has nothing to fear you might think. He has the strength of 10 men, doesn't rust, has an exhaustive computer memory and until 2371 was completely emotionless, when Dr Noonien Soong's (Data's human father) emotion chip was finally installed. Beforehand Data was completely fail safe and ruthless with his opponents. He had the equivalent fighting android capabilities for taking on the T800 Hk Terminator.

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television

The Enterprise android is not without his flaws. The installation of Dr Soong's emotion chip initially made Data a weak, emotional android unable to master a flood of human emotionalism. Data's other Achilles heel was his master switch, known only to his Enterprise friends. It effectively put the chief of Operations in sleep mode or deactivated him. Lore has used his brothers vulnerabilities to control him for his own ghastly schemes. Let it be said, Commander Data's noted capabilities far outweigh his faults.

In Star Trek's TNG "The Measure of a Man" Data's rights to choose are challenged. A hearing is assembled on the starbase. Data's future and all future androids in the galaxy rest solely on the successful outcome of Captain Picard's Defense of Data. Fortunately Mr Data is not deemed the property of Starfleet Command but a sentient lifeform with entitlements on equal footing to his flawed earthling friends. WhooHoo!!

The question is who would win hand to hand combat to the death? Commander Data or the T800 Hunter Killer?

The fact is no-one knows what makes our favourite artificial friend tick. Even cyberneticist Commander Bruce Maddox who determined the androids suitability to enrol Starfleet Academy was flummoxed by the complexity of Data's Positronic Brain. The Enterprise's artificial whizz is just too complex to fathom. Gene Roddenberry's android Trek Star has become a really famous and cherished figure worldwide, played by Brent Spiner who has a huge fan base.

Part of the android Data magic can be credited to his mystical "positronic brain" imagined and written by Isaac Asimov in his first robot stories from 1939 on. Asimov's delightful sci-fi words (positronic) have sharpened star trek lingo and have contributed to the global success it is today. It is because of Data's special features and achievements that our artificial friend has been added to a list of four robotic creations to join Carnegie Mellon University's Hall of Fame.

Starship Dangers In Space

Star Trek's TNG "Disaster" episode stardate 45156.1 marked an alarming encounter with a formidable celestial object for Captain Picards crew aboard the U.S.S Enterprise which reduced the ship to a defective, terminal hulk in galactic space. Two dangerous quantum filaments slammed into the Enterprise rendering many of the ship systems and the main computer inoperable.

The federation starship was now crippled and faced a crises situation. Counsellor Deanna Troi, Senior Starfleet Officer on bridge duty implemented Emergency Alpha 2 protocol thus disengaging all shipboard computer control and placing the ship systems on manual overdrive.

So what are the consequences of dangerous space travel with the Enterprise's-D communications, engineering interfaces, weapons and defence, main viewing screen, main computer, navigation, sensor arrays, food replicators, turbo lifts, all internal doors, environmental controls, transporter machinery, auxiliary systems, outer hatch doors and escape pods offline?

Communications frequencies are vital for every starship, without the ability to send and receive through subspace, the Enterprise is cut off from the rest of the federation nor can it send out a mayday asking for help. Worf's Weapons and Defence Systems are crucial for launching a counter attack against a hostile force intent on taking over the ship.

The main viewing screen allows the bridge staff to navigate the ship safely and alerts the crew to any space perils not accounted for by the Enterprise's computer. Sensor arrays, science stations, environmental controls, turbo lifts, food replicators, navigation systems, internal doors all tie in with the main computer core.

Starship interplanetary travel is often fraught with hazards so ships like the Enterprise NCC 1701-D are often armed to the teeth to protect themselves against dangerous natural phenomena and aggressive alien races. The main deflector and shields are an impressive field of science developed as a first line of defense for ship and crew.

Unfortunately quantum filaments which has subatomic properties, hundreds of meters long with almost no mass can penetrate the shields. Starfleet Officers gave their lives in the course of their duty and many other crew members were injured on stardate 45156.1 The bridge staff realized that once the antimatter containment field reached 14%, critical failure was on the way with a countdown of two hours for the Enterprise.

Hull ruptures are unnerving because this compromises the health and safety of the crew. Leaking air causes a loss of cabin pressure, loss of heat, loss of oxygen and with a compromised hull and no forcefield to keep out the vacuum of space, the Enterprise's structural integrity is at stake. Without air, trapped starfleet crew members will suffer from boiling blood, radiation poisoning, loss of consciousness and asphyxiation.

Temperatures aboard the ship depends on many things. Its location in space, condition of ship systems e.g. environmental control and the shields. The shields are all that stand between the life of the crew and the inhospitable void of space. Theoretically , if Captain Picard's crippled U.S.S. Enterprise is stranded too close to a star, the heat will boil up the crew and snuff them out. On the other hand stranded in the dark depts of space with no sunlight will just turn their ship into a freezing titanium nightmare.

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television.

Another challenge for the hampered Enterprise crew involves food replicators and the need for water. Theoretically lets imagine the crew have patched the hull and environmental control has been restored. However the food replicators are still offline and the galley is burnt out.
Environmental Controls
Space is a very dry place. Planets like Mercury which is nearest to earth's sun is too hot for water, so the Enterprise is dependant on its technology and ships stores. Until the starship can navigate herself to the nearest starbase or raise help from one of the nearest United Federation of Planets she remains a frustrated hulk in galactic space.

Under normal circumstances the Enterprise-D can extinguish fires herself by creating a vacuum and eliminating all oxygen from the fires place of origin. However for an incapacitated Federation Galaxy Class Flagship this is highly unlikely. Uncontrolled fires are extremely life threatening aboard any kind of space vessel and its surprising how fast smoke can spread throughout a starship if swift action, forcefields and emergency procedures are not acted upon.

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television

Starfleet Officers are highly trained professionals with one weakness in common. Emotionalism. Except for Mr Spock and his home world of computer loving, minded vulcans of course. One of the greatest Klingon villains of all time, Commander Kruge has described earthlings as "human weaklings" a reputation earth's ball of beings have earned owing to our kind endeavours in space and emotional nature.

Still even spacewalks make Mr Worf our hero klingon (in Star Trek's First Contact,) sick to his stomach. Spacewalks are often necessary to carry out repairs and in the construction of starships. Intergalactic space really is an exciting and scary place.
