G is for Guinan but who is she? In Star Trek's TNG
Whoopi Goldberg plays Guinan who runs the USS
Enterprise-D's ten forward lounge. Amazingly she belongs
to a mysterious race of El Aurians that doesn't seem to
age, Guinan is over 500 years old. Captain Picard and
Guinan share a very strong bond, they have a trust and
an unspoken understanding that surpasses normal
friendship and hints in some TNG episodes at possible
intimacy.
She is the only character apart from the
omnipotent Q who can challenge Picard's orders and get
him to change his mind. Data believes her perception
goes beyond linear time, which explains why she knew the
timeline was altered in 'Yesterdays Enterprise'A self
confessed Star Trek fan and Golden Globe winner to boot,
the actress told Gene Roddenberry she wanted a part to
play on the show. Whoopi Goldberg has been a Star Trek
fan since childhood (her hero was Nichelle Niichols) so
her character took off when producers found out she
wanted to be part of the series.
What do you think, did Captain Picard and Guinan have a secret love affair?
Live Long and Prosper, trekkers.

WAIT Whoopee was in Star Trek?? I did not know that
Such a great character.
I imagined him with Dr. Crusher...
They also both entered the Nexus in the Generations movie.
I always imagined Guinan and Picard had a very close, longstanding friendship. One of my favorite episodes was the two-parter where they ended up meeting during Mark Twain's era.
Yes Lynda, Picard had to go back in time to lookout for Guinan who if memory serves me correctly, was injured in the past.
Heck, no. Lovers could not be such trusting good friends. there would always be an element of friction.
maybe. they are intimate enough, but it must have been when he was really young. that way time had passed enough to get over the lover part and be friends.
I do think they were lovers at some point. Probably when Picard was young and Guinan could take advantage of his naiveté in such things. Not that he probably minded much, being a guy.
Remember star treks Dixon Hill episode? 11.5 million fans tuned in to watch the Big Goodbye on Jan 11th 1988, all because Guinan dolled herself up real special, which you can be sure didn't go unnoticed by Picard.
I liked Guinan's character...always the level-headed one.

Picard has always been slightly uncomfortable with his ex-lovers. especially in public situations. His bond with Guinan seems much deeper than that. He trusts her implicitly and even relies on her judgement above his own because he knows her perspective is so much farther reaching than his own. I suspect that if Picard and Guinan were ever lovers they would be still. Her position for him is closer to mentor.
