Resistance is Futile

R is for Resistance. This famous line "Resistance is futile" was first uttered by Borg aliens aboard their fearless cube in the epic encounter with the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D giving chase in Star Trek: The Next Generation, "Best of Both Worlds, Part 1."

This 1990 episode offered up one of the greatest cliff-hangers in television history and with Picard nabbed right from the bridge of Starfleets flagship, the Federation had lots of problems. TNG coined this "Resistance is futile" phrase that would live forever in the nightmares of fans—mainly because it was recycled .

Definitely among their most legendary episodes.

Love the phrase, but didn't know what you meant by "recycled" until I clicked on that. Wow, thanks for the curious tidbit, Spacer! I hope we find more of these when we add your biological distinctiveness to our own.

Me and my friends spent the whole summer of 1990 talking about that cliffhanger and wondering what would happen to Picard.

I didn't know where the phrase came from. Thank you.

All trekkers can do is sit back and geek out after a good Star Trek after all we're the best at what we do, aren't we?

You're welcome EC

The Enterprise-D borg grab was unnerving and literally froze the air as I gasped WOW back then.

Star Trek is full of these tid bits ApacheDug, thanks - the conventions were great for spreading the word.

Alex, Best of Both Worlds heightened sense of danger gave this epic a cool ride for viewers.

I remember that cliffhanger and yelling at the screen, "NOOOooooooo!" It was a great 2 part episode and loved the one after when Picard returns home.

I remember Birgit. The captain said sleep and it was the perfect command to disarm the entire Borg Cube, simply genius.

I do hate that phrase. The Borg were quite the advisaries.

However irrelevant, I must say the Borg seriously creeped me out.
