Legend in her own lifetime R.I.P. Nichelle Nichols has died on the 30th July 2022: Trailblazing' actress who played the friendly Lt Uhura in Star Trek as our beloved Communications Officer aboard the USS Enterprise NCC 1701. She was 89. Nichelle Nichols broke barriers for black women in Hollywood like Whoopi Goldberg and got involved with the Space Programme NASA recruiting folks who weren't just white men but people of colour boldly recruiting from where no-one came before.
The youngest and third woman into space was Sally Ride. Guy Bluford was part of the original Mercury Seven. Not to mention former cosmonaut and the first person of African heritage into space in 1980, Arnaldo Tamayo Méndez - They have all become famous astronauts.
