STAR TREK TNG - LOUD AS A WHISPER

Merry Christmas Trekkers, I pray everyone is staying safe. Heres my review of Star Trek TNG "Loud as a Whisper" which has a unique form of communication. The Federation is called upon yet again to solve a bitter planetary conflict.

Wesley, Riker, Picard, Troi, Data, Worf, Tasha Yar.

Rivas Chorus

Desperate for salvation planet Solaris V only inhabitants are unable to overpower the freedom fighters. Over the centuries - The gun is no longer fun! Yes, Warring factions call the shots literally determining the rule of law with firepower decide we can't go on murdering each other... Enough!

USS ENTERPRISE NCC 1701-D

Peace is in the air - when the flagship of the United Federation of Planets arrives with renowned deaf mediator Riva....only an unhappy rebel filled with rage is waiting to deliver the kiss of death.

Love, Peace, Intellect

Riva (and his telepathic chorus of three) beam down from the safety of USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D to "speak" eloquently via hand signals conveying Riva's thoughts.

"Riva!" (Lets get outta here)

Unfortunately the civil war ceasefire between the two sides was a shotgun marriage. All it took was one Giant Step Forward leaving Riva's fateful communicators - Scholar, Passion and Harmony, true peace keepers disintegrated layer by layer right before our eyes, wisped away by hate gone forever.

Solaris V Soldiers
Riva! We need You!

Some say the effect of the laser weapon is fascinating 1989 Star Trek TV!

Riker grabbed Riva out of the line of fire. The faction lieutenants delivered swift retaliation execution for the trio meaningless "chorus murders"

Voiceless, feeling alone, deserted, Riva's telepathic friends were not coming back.

Would you return to rebuild the "bridge" between two antagonists filled with loathing and revenge?

Does this type of  1989 CGI shock you?...

How do you suppose did Riva mediate without his telepaths? any ideas?

LIVE LONG AND PROSPER AND MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!

Early season. And no, nothing shocks me anymore.

The first season of T.N.G. gets a lot of flack, and rightfully so. But there were still some gems in that first season. Riva was such an interesting idea for a character.

What an intriguing premise. I hope that peace keepers will always keep trying - despite it always being an uphill battle. In fact and in fiction.

It looked really good in 1989. It's funny how effects that once looked great now look quaint.

CGI has advanced but it was shocking for the time Alex. I recall being stunned seeing the three telepaths snuffed out so fast by enemy laserfire.

Riva actor Howie Seago was born deaf James. He is adept in ASL and is also vocally fluent. Peter Sellers cast him in the tragic play "Ajax". so when TNG came along Star Trek wanted Riva.

It was great E.C. and taken a step further when Riva decided to teach the warring factions to sign which eliminated all need for hating, fighting and energy wasted spent in war.

Merry Christmas Tony

Ahh the memories and nostalgia Liz. I recall from my mind how I was stunned in amazement by the sheer evil speed of the gun which vaporized Riva's communicators.

I feel guilty for 2 reasons, not seeing this blog sooner and forgetting this early TNG episode--I need to get my dvds out of storage. Spacer, I've been thinking of you a bit this past week--I recently got the CBS show "Picard" on DVD, watched the first 3 episodes and man I'm loving it! If I don't talk to you soon, Merry Christmas Commander!

Its cool your star trekking enjoying the Picard in DVD ApacheDug. I recall purchasing all Star Trek TNG for 109 euro per season way back in the 90's and then came blu ray!!! Aww lord don't get me started. I've spent thousands on Star Trek lol. Merry Christmas Trekker.

This was a great episode, despite the primitive CGI. Always wondered how the people of Solaris V made contact with Starfleet.

Right. We watched it last month. And it was, wow. I'd forgotten about it.
