Oops, I think I know only 2 answers.
But I'm also confused - what's the difference between 2 and 5?
I'm glad you asked. It seems in 1916, Mary Shelley was inspired to write Frankenstein after having nightmares about her deceased infant son.
Mary Shelley kept interesting company with Lord Byron, Percy Shelly her poet husband and author of Ozymandias, (believed to refer to Ramesses the Great.)Together with Dr John Polidori they exchanged ghost stories.
In 1818 Frankenstein is published. Science Fiction is born.
Hindsight is a great thing. Over the centuries, a great deal of proto SF was written but nobody used the term "Science Fiction." It was'nt until 1929 that "Science Fiction" was properly invented.
Before the "sci-fi" discovery, writers called their works by many names such as Utopias, Scientific Romances, Fantastic Voyages, Lost World Tales etc
