Carrie Fisher, Rick Parfitt and George Michael passed away this Christmas - 2016

Our beloved Princess Leia played by Carrie Fisher died very unexpectedly at the age of 60 today. On a flight traveling from London to Los Angeles Carrie suffered a massive heart attack on Friday. Passengers and flight crew administered CPR and she was immediately taken to hospital for treatment.

Her family announced in a statement: “It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning"

Speaking out Friends and Disney pay tribute.

It is also with a heavy heart that we bid farewell to rock musicians Rick Parfitt (Status Quo) with George Michael (Wham!) departing our world this Christmas.

RIP Carrie, Rick and George.

Star Trek Starfleet Academy - (1997)

Below Star Trek - Starfleet Academy is spliced together with Star Trek - Klingon Academy. These two video games have been combined into a movie. The good news is you can now watch both (1997) editions right here at Star Trek Sci Fi Blog. Its worth realising Harve Bennett had originally penned "Star Trek: The Academy Years" as Star Trek: The First Adventure. The plan was to project the Star Trek movie missions onto the big screen.

It turns out differences in money, power, creativity, ego, health, availability altered the eventual flow of Star Trek's "First Adventure" in our timeline. While Fans still have "Star Trek Starfleet Academy" (game) and the spliced(movie) to enjoy. What really happened afterwards? Long story short, along came Star Trek 2009.

So I've done a little digging and found an interesting segment on Memory Alpha you might find fascinating.

The 2009 film Star Trek, written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, superficially borrowed the same basic premise of Bennett's film by returning the franchise to the Academy years of the original crew, how they first met, and how they first came aboard the USS Enterprise. Aside from these surface similarities, the plotlines of these two films are significantly different. When asked about the 2009 film, Bennett said, "I did see it. I'm not the audience for that. Rapid cuts. Explosions. Gore for the sake of gore. Either that makes me a dinosaur or there's a generational problem, but that's not J.J.'s fault."

Who deserves the credit for Star Trek's First Adventure? which was also made into a blockbuster movie in (2009)?

1. Gene Roddenberry
2. J.J. Abrams
3. Harve Bennett

Merry Christmas Everyone,

Star Trek Beyond was Justin Lins first "rebooted" Trek movie to hit cinemas in 2016 after STID and 2009.

On Stardate 2263.2 Captain Kirk wrecks the USS Enterprise NCC 1701 by smashing the Federations flagship into an alien planet.  Memory alpha confirms the movies villain is one badass cookie, Krall was like Director Justin Lins secret weapon designed to omaze the crowds. Unfortunately my friends, Krall's silence is also why Star Trek Beyond fizzled.

How many of us wanted to know more about the movies villain, Krall???

Who in the galactic universe was Krall and why were his dynamic capabilities kept hidden? The big bad - Elba was perfect for playing evil Krall. The only snag was we were kept in the dark. That means us People!!!

Believe me if I knew more about Krall you guys would have read all about him at Star Trek Sci Fi Blog. So blame the Star Trek Kid, Justin Lin.  In any case the movies domestic release warped ahead on the 22nd July, 2016. Here was one of the main characters in the entire movie, Star Trek Beyond and very little Krall in trailers. The villain could have stirred up an increasing hotbed of emotions generating huge interest in the movies swarming conflicts and sparsely populated class M world (magnetically attracting eager fans and sweet studio profits).

But do lets be honest, trekkers to warriors LET TALK about the LAST MONTH before Star Trek Beyond even hit the big screen!!!

Why did Justin Lin keep Krall Top Secret?

While Idris Elba geeked around during Star Trek's marketing campaign, why couldn't he just tell us about Star Trek Beyond's villain, Krall? Was he forbidden? The bad guy was deep deep undercover somewhere, a strange alien and a Columbo mystery for the Enterprise crew, how do you EXPLAIN THAT to fans in the closing LAST MONTH?. So what happens? Virtually no Krall in any of Star Trek Beyond's trailers which spelt one thing.............................................

Krall's late arrival on the scene turned solid gold into ashes. So when he said "I'm counting on it" to Lieutenant Uhura - too much time had elapsed to get an instinctive, terrified reaction from loyal fans and movie addicts. Scary words weren't enough to shrink me into my seat... It was puzzling to gauge why Krall was scouring the Enterprise looking for this magical device. This villain didn't add a crisp new dimension which made me think alive. The USS Enterprise NCC 1701 crew's safety didn't matter much either, those guys know the drill I told myself. Krall just didn't petrify me with fear.

This years 13th installment attracted $343.3M at the box office for Star Trek's 50th anniversary, I guess we've been lucky. The movie alone cost $150 million to produce. So it wasn't a complete disaster, financially speaking. In reality the Box-Office numbers were a grey result for Paramount Pictures. Star Trek Beyond hardly triumphed in comparison to its cousin, Star Wars The Force Awakens but it deserved better. The Force Awakens raked in $2.066 billion bucks .......just when we thought it couldn't get any worse...)Star Wars victory music starts playing.  (I really feel like crying now and going home) record player scratch....

Movie fans know Star Treks former director J.J. Abrams led Star Wars to victory. Yeah, yeah yeah... cry me a river. He was Star Trek's last best hope... okay, okay enough whimpering already.... but I want to get serious for a moment, it wont take long.... wait I've changed my mind.

Did you watch Star Trek Beyond?

How did you react to the movies villain, Krall? (Idris Elba)

What did you think of villain Krall's marketing coverage before Star Trek Beyond's Grand Premiere?

Heres Star Trek's Original Series bloopers brought to us in living colour. These classic "out-takes" were rescued from the studio floor. The shows creator Gene Roddenberry had them spliced together without telling Leonard Nimoy  or the crew. In them we see Captain Kirk kissing a beautiful blonde bombshell in a red mini-skirt.

All the awesomeness it took to get Star Trek TOS onto film is here. Although our defender of female virtue enjoyed his job we can judge from the laughs, snafus like these just constantly happened. Remember this is 1969. This era kind of gives an idea of what actors did to pass time when in a "fix" by fooling around slobbering all over the women, what a cool job. The camera crew gave a standing ovation - you can hear them cheering on and why wouldn't you? These were your bosses keeping you employed you would too!!!

Shatner spends 3 whole hours getting plastered in make-up to age Captain Kirk for Star Trek's classic "Deadly Years" and what happens?

The studio doors were locked up and everyone had gone home!

'Bob Justman, I'm going home now. after spending three hours putting this fracking makeup back on.....and its your fault!

How would you have reacted?

Star Trek The Next Generation - Timescape

Airdate: 14th June 1993
Stardate: 46944.2
Writers: Brannon Braga
Season 6 episode #151

First off let me apologize for the long post, Timescape is complicated.

Even Captain Picard says, "Its going to take a little time to explain No 1"

In 1993 Star Trek The Next Generation's visually stunning "Timescape" episode hit our tv sets. You might even remember Captain Picard's USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D, Galaxy Class Flagship exploding in outerspace! But wait.... the TV set rewinds and voila, - the Enterprise-D is - shes alive and in one piece again! Hooray!!!! So what happened?

Timescape is Brannan Braga's second time travel script."It was one of those episodes that read better on paper," laughs the man himself. Adam Nimoy directed polishing it off nicely. Getting the crew to stand motionless wasn't easy....apparently.

Picard, Geordi, Data and Counselor Troi are chatting after a weary conference lecturing them about the effects of Deep Space assignments. Sounds exciting doesn't it? When three shuttle crew freeze up before Deannas eyes.  No-one really believes her - Its only when the freaky happens to Deanna.... Our friends have to put on brave faces but at least the open arms of home sweet Enterprise awaits. Right?

The crew are shocked to discover spherical temporal disturbances affecting time in the entire region, fast and slow. After altitude restoration, Geordi reports that the shuttles starboard anti matter pod is totally drained. Data also points out that according to the plasma conversion sensor, the the pods have been in continuous use for 47 days! Except thats not all.

Time is moving 50 times faster which Picard realizes after touching fruit. The dude literally flips out in agony, gasping, cradling his hand gingerly. So now its time to high tail it to the safety of the Enterprise-D.

The enigma deepens because the Enterprise-D is motionless facing a D'deridex class Romulan Warbird. Everything about the Romulans seems wrong. The fact is at this point in time, we're not supposed to know who the bad guys are but the beauty is they look like Romulans!

To shed light on the mystery of the energy fire between both spaceships, Captain Picard's shuttle crew beam aboard his flagship to investigate. Geordi prepares frequencies on all the protective transporter time-bands, so everyones can move in the frozen timeline.

When they get aboard, It turnouts that a warpcore breach is in progress. The breach will eventually consume the Enterprise at its current rate of speed in 9 hours. Picards temporal narcosis doesn't help matters which explains happy face time!!!.

The real brainteaser is why two aliens are running about the Enterprise trying to prevent a warp power transfer to the Warbird? For reasons unknown to us these guys are from another time dimension and they've screwed up. I mean have a heart!!! Unfortunately they mistook the Romulan Warbirds engine power source as a natural quantum singularity. Duh what??? natural quantum singularity. Seriously????

In other words the aliens use "black holes" as nests for their young aliens...... Okay I think my brains were melting right about now. Unfortunately the Romulan power source was a forced quantum singularity unsuitable for any lifeforms.

In order to restore time Picard remote controls his shuttle into the path of the energy transfer. Wasn't he clever?

The tension in Timescape builds exceptionally well but I reckon the alien lifeforms get a raw deal. They simply just hadn't a clue what they were doing. I mean what kind of alien parent put their kids incubating in a Romulan warpcore engine? Question:

Who in your opinion are the bad guys? The Romulans or the Aliens?

Alice Eve was Born in 1982. Our blond beauty's lovely right eye is green and left eye is blue otherwise called Heterochromia.

Star Trek Into Darkness made headlines in 2013 when Carol Marcus alias Carol Wallace stripped off to her underwear. She tells Captain Kirk to turn around who peeks... She conceals her true identity to gain entry aboard the USS Enterprise NCC 1701 with forged documents. Kirk and Carol become intimate lovers and have a child but curiously the blond bombshell is no longer serving in 2263. (Star Trek Beyond)

Do you know why?

Alice Eve has spoken about her naughty exhibitionist performance.

"That was my decision. That was not something I was pushed into... I'm sure in 30 years I'll be even more proud of it"

So why wasn't Alice Eve in Star Trek Beyond?

Don Marshall Star Trek Actor dies at 80

On a sad note, well known Land of the Giants, Star Trek actor, Don Marshall passed away peacefully on Oct 30th. His daughter, son and twin brother Doug were at his bedside. He was 80. Don starred in Star Trek's classic "galileo-seven"  playing the spirited Lieutenant Boma.

Fans will remember him for challenging Mr Spock's insufferable logic when the shuttlecraft crash lands on planet Taurus II. We know the ion storm threw them off course but heres the thing. The G7 crew were low on fuel and had to achieve orbit.

So who gets to choose? demands Boma of Mr Spock. Meanwhile the creatures were attacking! Don Marshall will not be forgotten by fans, RIP Don and thanks for making us laugh.

Bryan Fuller bids farewell to Star Trek Discovery as the Lead writer and creative trek mastermind. He stays on as Executive Producer while moving on to other projects. Lately trek's fledgling Discovery series has been making headlines with Alex Kurtzman and  Bryan Fuller. They wrote Star Trek Into DarknessStar Trek 2009, DS9 and Voyager a while ago kicking them up with the super mythological, and psychological extraordinaire.

The sticking point for trek's producers appears to exist in Star Trek TOS. Writers keep drawing upon the magnetic nature of its classic lifeforms, amazing story arcs and strange unknowns.

Meanwhile a conflict of interest has arisen with Fuller organizing his time between Trek, American Gods and Amazing Stories which means one had to go.

So now Star Trek fan Bryan Fuller is stepping aside to juggle his duties. The plan is to clear a path for new ideas giving Star Trek Discovery's lifeforms breathing room to traverse the galaxy, analyze strange unknowns and wow the fans.

It clear CBS welcomed a kindred spirit to explore and develop the continuity of Star Trek's timeline. The word at Variety is Fuller, teased out new revelations to the fan community at Comic Con. Mythological diversity, using a LGBT character, the welcome delight of aliens,  and also what greatness a leading woman would take, clearly on the table.

What we're doing is not necessarily new in Star Trek but we get to embrace it in a modern way that Star Trek has not indulged in much in the past.

Over the last few days fans are finding out now Bryan Fuller is stepping away as the showrunner for the new CBS Star Trek Discovery show.  So whats happened?

Show business trekkies!

The day to day running of Star Trek Discovery leaves Fullers lieutenants - Gretchen Berg and Aaron Harberts taking over the show. Writer director Akiva Goldman is also expected to join "Discovery" in a top creative role. Supporting Berg and Harberts. Filming will begin next month with a 2017 premiere date - pushed back to May.

Heres what we know about Star Trek Discovery so far:

1. The series is 10 years before Star Trek the Original Series.

2. Mysterious  history will emerge.

3. A fascinating amount of aliens will boldy go where no alien has gone before in Star Trek's universe.

4. The lead character is not going to be a male captain. Qualities will include: a neurosis, sense of humor and shes female.

5. "Its not on Earth and its not on a planet."

6. New young blood ready to shoot first and ask questions later - all based on TOS iconic characters of course. Robots get the thumbs up. Don't you just love Robots?

7. No Romulan War, No Kobayashi Maru, maybe some Section 31 and an iteration of Amanda Grayson's storyline, (Spock's Mother) into the show.

8. Lee Pace as has agreed to play a Vulcan.

9. Seven characters will play key figures in the show.

10. Graphic scenes, profanity is still being weighed up owing to the wider audience CBS ALL Access will be able to reach.

11. Star Trek Discovery is planned to premiere in the US in January 2017

12. Discovery will be on Netflix by the end of 2017.

13. Robots are cool.

14. The rank of the lead character is a Lieutenant Commander and her name is No 1 ?

15. No Captain?!

Will you be watching Star Trek Discovery on CBS or Netflix? Who do you want to be Discoveries Lead Writer? Who are you rooting for? Man, Alien or Woman? What kind of leader are you hoping for? Captain, Alien, Robot or Android? Is Star Trek trying to be too politically correct?

Star Trek is awesome. Obviously, acting is a lot harder than it looks on television. Remembering lines learned off by heart takes effort but trying to pronounce all of "Star Treks" terminology must be frustrating considering trek's 16 hour work days...

The good news is Fans can now look forward to Star Trek: Discovery set to premiere in 2017.

President Barack Obama watched Star Trek a lot when he was a kid. So why has Star Trek lasted for over 50 years? Here from the White House is trekkie Barack explaining why Star Trek continues to boldly fascinate us mere mortals on Planet Earth.

What made the show lasting – it wasn't about technology – it was about values and human relationships. Trek is “really talking about a notion of a common humanity and a confidence in our ability to solve problems.”

Enjoy the video everyone. Live long and prosper trekkers.

William Shatner, George Takei, Walter Koenig, Terry Farrell, Marina Sirtis, Gates McFadden, Robert Duncan McNeill, Armin Shimerman, Christopher Lloyd, Martha Hackett and Alice Krige (the Borg Queen in Star Trek: First Contact) but no Nichelle Nichols beam over to the UK to meet the fans for Star Trek's 50th Anniversary.

Many fans eager to meet the stars tweeted while they waited. Trekkers with Admiral VIP Tickets swept by tons of people waiting in queues which took two hours to get past the check points. The only catch is VIP treatment cost £2,999! Standard Tickets were far cheaper.

Adam Nimoy, Leonard Nimoys son is seated in command of the Galaxy Class USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D seen here. Space babes Marina Sirtis and Terry Farrell were also among the stars this weekend at Birmingham's Destination Star Trek  Convention.

Over the weekend thousands of Star Trek fans queued for hours to get in on the action with their Star Trek TV/Movie heroes. Marie Gordon flashes her Lieutenant stripes on her red bridge officers duty uniform to curry favor but no can do! It just goes to show. Even Star Trek Lieutenants have to wait. haha!!!

On Sunday William took part in answering questions for the fans. Heres a fun video he made specially for fans.

Walter Koenig appeared with George Takei live onstage at Star Trek's Birmingham Convention. These two Chekov and Sulu navigate and pilot the Starship USS Enterprise 1701

This photograph says it all. Its the launch for Star Trek's UK Destination event and the expression on the stars faces is fascinating...... William Shatner has done it again. The look on Walter Koenig's face is priceless.

These sci-fi ladies are making the most out of Star Trek's 50th Destination Event. They probably handed their tricorder, phasers and communicators over to an Ensign during the photoshoot. So whats not to like?

Its life....... but not as we know it!   Jim!

Hot Sci Fi Magnet, Zoe Saldana's breakthrough came after starring in Avatar, Guardians of the Galaxy, and most importantly playing Star Trek's Lieutenant Nyota Uhura aboard the USS Enterprise NCC 1701.

Here she is looking radiant, presenting the reigning King of Geekdom (J.J. Abrams) with a Visual Effects Award at the 13th annual VES Awards in 2015. Don't they look cute together?

Zoe Saldana is one hot mamma! She gave birth to her twin boys Cy and Bowie just over a year ago.

Over the weekend audiences greeted Hollywood trek stars with a deafening roar at Star Trek's New York Convention. William Shatner took Q&A reported by Trekcore and was given a standing ovation. Hes still star trekking at 85 years of age! Is that great!!!

Star Trek's 50th anniversary is this year and Walter Koenig (TOS CHEKOV) whole heartedly thanked fans across the land as did Marina Sirtis. (TNG Counselor Troi) She ever so gently reminded us that TNG's 30th Anniversary will be in 2017. Now I think if Marina spoke in her Star Trek "Counselor Troi"  voice from the first season of TNG she'd be onto a definite WINNER! I know I'd love to hear that Betazoid beauty again!!!

A photo posted by Star Trek: Mission New York (@startrekmissions) on

(Remember Captain Picard rescued Deanna Troi from the "skin of evil" ARMUS was bad news!!!!! ) TOS, TNG, VOYAGER, DS9 and ENTERPRISE Cast members all beamed over for StarTrekNY Convention. It was really just one big cosmic party.

Star Treks Mission in New York all told lasted 3 days and had an amazing fan turnout partly in thanks to CBS Consumer Products and Reedpop. Here are some of the cool toys. Its interesting because these guys took on the Stars Wars Celebration and the Pax Conventions. If you're a huge Sci Fi fan you'll know all about those and Star Trek Toys.

2. Christopher Pike dies staring at Kirk and Spock!

3. Two Spocks are better than one.

4. The live Action rips up the Set into Pieces

5. The Acting carries you along with Cumberbatch giving the movie meaningful purpose with that voice of his.

 6. Alice Eve Strip Scene is magnificent. She admitted strip teasing was all her idea more or less. It goes without saying Alice was a very Naughty Schoolgirl.

Star Trek Beyond Mysteries

How is Star Trek beyond doing at the Box Office? We've got a little puzzle to solve with only 199.8 million ringing in at the Box Office. Remember Star Trek Beyond made its domestic release in theaters only on the 22nd July 2016. All indications are good Star Trek is a smash hit drawing in crowds with $59 million over the first weekend. So what happened? I've done a little digging into the trek timeline to try and piece together Star Trek's mysteries.

In 2007 J.J. Abrams made a fascinating confession at San Diego's Comic-Con International. Despite his "Star Wars" disclosure, word spread fast. It was MAJOR LIFTOFF for Paramount Pictures putting Star Trek right on the map again. All of this happened ages before Star Trek 2009 even hit cinemas around the world.

Leonard Nimoy and Zachary Quinto spoke about their "Spock" characters which was amazing news at the time. .

Heres what Abrams said, The excitement for us is I think is the ability to take this amazing world of Gene Roddenberry created which is remarkable and these incredible characters and show them in a way you haven't seen them. I think its tricky because this matters to so many people and we can't screw this up.

When you listen to the video J.J. abrams talks about Gene Roddenberry's characters. William Shatner is mentioned and producers are still hunting for the NEW KIRK replacement unknown to us at the time. (Chris Pine stepped in later)

The buzz surrounding Star Trek 2009 and STID was fun and exciting. Fans love the thrill of being in on the scoop when breaking news goes viral. There lots of fun with Star Trek 2009, Star Trek Into Darkness and now we've got Star Trek Beyond

So how does Krall compare to the Federations top agent Khan in Star Trek Into Darkness? Star Trek fans will know Khan was originally played by Ricardo Montalban in Star Trek The Wrath of Khan. Timeline readings indicate Khan also starred in Star Trek TOS Space Seed.  Khan is an interesting tyrant who has developed over time.

Which villain is "frightening enough to make your heart pulse with delicious fear and terror?"

Who said "Hes not playing Khan!!!"????

To answer this lets watch the star-trek-kid - Justin Lin on Youtube. Heres a video published on July 16, 2016 - six days before the movie hits the cinema. The guy talks about passion and uniqueness and his love for Star Trek and Jaylah..... Which is great but why were most of his videos released only one month before Star Trek Beyond hit the theaters?... I guess we can't blame it on the guy who broke the ship again.

A special variety Happy Camp show in China are reaching out to over 200 million people every week with Star Trek Beyond in mind. - Awww heck they'll probably find the little furry critters hilarious!

Las Vegas Convention for Star Trek 50th

William Shatner (Captain Kirk) who is not in the latest Star Trek Beyond film, spoke on Saturday at Creation Entertainment's Offical Las Vegas Convention for 6000 Star Trek fans.

Celebrating Star Trek's 50th Anniversary was Walter Koenig (Pavel Chekov) sporting Adidas gear as the women of trek took to the stage featuring Kate Mulgrew (Captain Janeway) Bjo Trimble and Trekmovies Kayla Lacovino.

In true leadership style Kate took command and cast aside any notion of being a damsel in distress who needed rescuing.

“I have never called myself a feminist,” said Kate. "You don't complain and you don't explain."

In a curious turn of events Trekmovies Kayla lacovino seems to have had a change of heart. “I’m happy to call myself a feminist because that’s what I am.”

So you decide trekker, who would you put in charge of a starship? Kayla or Kathryn?

Walter Koenig was asked if Star Trek 50 years later would still be going at warp speed,

“Who did? No one. We all thought it was over.”

Heres what Walter said on Anton Yelchin's death and JJ Abrams decision to say goodbye to his character, Chekov.

“This was an extraordinary person. Anton was a really, really good human being. We only spent a couple of hours on set, but he was special…it was very painful for that to have happened…I applaud JJ Abrams and his group’s decision not to recast Chekov for new movies.”

Its interesting to note Walter Koenig had his own personal favorite Star Trek movie which surprisingly is not The Wrath of Khan.

“I thoroughly enjoyed making [The Wrath of Khan], but the movie that taught me that we had something special was Star Trek IV. I read that script and knew we had a winner.”

William Shatner reminisced about his old friend Leonard Nimoy and recalled the good times with fond memories.

“When I’m asked most about what I remember about Leonard, it’s the laughter. He was so funny. We’d get on stage and I’d double over with laughter. I’ve got so many pictures of me hysterical with laughter.”

To end his talk on the success of Star Wars vs Star Trek, William Shatner told us something about what differences made each sci-fi movie serial unique and special enough to shine in their own way.

“Star Trek at its best tells human stories that are philosophical. There’s humanity, there’s something under the story, there’s a principle involved, and it’s well done. It’s about people. Star Wars was grand, like opera, and it was huge, and it had great special effects, and was a marvelously entertaining film, but wasn’t specifically about people the way most Star Treks were.”

Trekmovie have interesting dialogue up on their website. At Star Treks Las Vegas convention Whoopi Goldberg recounts answering a very direct question from Gene Roddenberry.

“Can I ask you a very upfront question?” Roddenberry asked, according
to Goldberg.
“Can I ask you why you want to be on Star Trek?”
“Don’t you know? You don’t know that we didn’t exist anywhere in
science fiction before you put Lt. Uhura on there?”
Two weeks later, Roddenberry called and said

          “Whoopi, you actually are right.”
“Yes, sir. I know. Can I be on the show now?”

When I was a kid I loved sci-fi, I loved horror movies, I loved all these things,” she elaborated. “There were lots of folks on television, you could see black folks on television, but you never saw them in the future. And until Gene Roddenberry put a beautiful black woman, who was the communications officer – she wasn’t cleaning houses.
To see her in the future in charge of communications and being as hot as a woman could be to the point where even the aliens wanted her. You’d see Spock looking at her and you knew what he was thinking,” she said to great laughter. More seriously she added, “She was integral to their being able to survive wherever they were going.”

Live Long and Prosper.
