Starship U.S.S. Enterprise 1701 Creators

Gene Roddenberry is worshipped thoughout the Trek Universe because he's the Star Trek Creator. During Gene's era faithful trekkers beamed in to conventions from all over the universe to see him. Happy trekkers shared the space time continuum with an imaginative, friendly sci fi mind, who assimulated Edgar Rice Burroughs's Mars novels and Science Fiction in the Astounding Stories magazine growing up. Gene was also motivated by Arthur C. Clarke's Profiles of the Future which examines "space drives, warped space, and instantaneous transportation."

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

In a letter to Issac Asimov, Gene revealed to his lifelong friend that Star Trek came very near to breaking his health. "Its so much my baby that I couldn't confine myself to ten or twelve hour work days" which led to "me often working through several nights in a row without ever going home to sleep."

Gene's passion made him sacrifice his life for Star Trek. The next time you see Kirk or Worf beating the spuds out of some bad alien guy, think of the poor writer who spent hours composing the sci fi story. It doesn't always follow that just because writers get paid for writing a great submission that all their ideas will be used, indeed sometimes they're rewritten!

On an upbeat note, speaking for trekkers and sci fi fans, we get really excited when watching star trek because its our baby too! Starfleets starships explore the infinite reaches of space on tv every day. Earth is being assimulated with trekkiedom spreading everywhere across earth. The dream became a reality in 1966 and spread throughout the stars with six awesome Trek shows TOS, TNG, VOY, DS9, Enterprise and the animated show. Thats over six hundred episodes!!!

Don't forget the ten feature films with star trek XI in the pipeline for early 2009. Heres a Sci-Fi mystery, who's the second star trek creator? or perhaps I should say starship creator? I haven't overlooked the fact that the starship U.S.S. Enterprise was Gene Roddenberry's idea but in order for the show to reach for the stars and the fans, it needed a flash powerful starship. The Enterprise Creator isn't widely publicized but Spacerguy has uncovered that the U.S.S. Enterprise 1701 was designed by Walter "Matt" Jeffries. One of earths genuine trekkie talents. Thankyou Mr Jeffries!

Liz Shatners Trekkie Story

The Supreme Trekkie Guy came to earth nearly nine decades ago. Gene Roddenberry embarked on a science fictional odyssey which changed our lives and made millions of people happy. Thankyou Gene. The Star Trek Creator's authorized biography is written by David Alexander. Here's Liz Shatners trekkie story.

It's August 19th and on this day in Sci-Fi History, Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry was born in El Paso, Texas in 1921. Gene Roddenberry was an aviator and a Los Angeles Police Officer before he developed the idea for star Trek in 1964. The sci-fi series was finally picked up by Desilu Studios when Gene sold the idea as "Wagon Train To The Stars." The original 500,000 dollar pilot received minor support from NBC but the Network commissioned an unprecedented second pilot.

Star Trek TOS series premiered on Sept 8th, 1966 and ran for three seasons before it was cancelled. Eventually Gene would live to see a next generation of Star Trek and six original series films before his untimely death death in October in 1991, just a few days after viewing Star Trek 6, The Undiscovered Country. Gene Roddenberry left his place in Science Fiction History with a legacy that few have been able to achieve.

Science Fiction Words

Star Trek has thrilled earthies with its cosmic treks through time for over 40 years now. So here is my favourite list of sci fi words to bring extra sparkle into your trekker lives.

1. Earthling is an all time favourite by Science Fictional writers as is earthers, carbon based lifeforms, earthies, sapient beings, pan-dimensional beings and little green men.

2. Cybernetics is such a cool word. Dr Noonien Soong was the foremost scientific expert in cybernetics and was also Star Trek's father to the android called Data. The science of computers was given its name - Cybernetics - by Norbert Weiner.

3.Nanites, Cyborgs, Androids, Daleks, Jedi's, Mutants and the Bug Eyed Monster are well known for thrilling fans with their fierceness and pure logical reasoning. Ehm, the Jedi Luke did get a bit emotional occasionally but he was a human afterall.

4. Death ray, Phaser, Disruptor, Disintegrator, Ray gun, heat ray, laser gun. We humanoids do like to shoot each other. Its in our nature to blow up the bad guy's ship!! Yeah!! It is is'nt it?

The Trekkie Building

5. Exoskeleton. We all know the Terminator starring Arnold Swartzenegger, don't we? He's the charming dude who hunts down humans and then blows them away. Like I said he's a nice guy.

6. Warpspeed! If you've got a starship without warpspeed then you've been had mate. Warp drives distort the shape of the space time continuum. Ask Picard for advice. Don't be a sucker get yourself a proper ship. There are variations on this word like time-warp, warp technological worlds and space-warp etc

7. Mind-meld. Vulcans in the Star Trek universe use mindmelds to communicate and extract information from out of the heads of tormented minds, criminals and yes, law abiding federation citizens too! If you've got something to hide, forget it. Mr Spock's magnetic fingers will suck the information right out of your brain! Zachary Quinto is the new Mr Spock, sniff, see the news.

8. Positronic. Commander Data of the Star Trek Universe has a Positronic Brain. Isaac Asimov first imagined this concept in his first robot stories in 1939 and 1940. The word "Positronic" was coined by this world maestro of science fiction with five hundred books and several hundred articles to his credit.. This word can be used in conjunction with many other words for example positronic supercomputer, positronic robot, positronic brain etc.

9. Space-satans. These guys cause all the havoc in the galaxy. Darth Vader is one of the best space-pirates in the galactic universe. Go vader, Go Vader. Go bust them up!! Just why did he have to take his helmet off? It wrecked his mysterious super coolness!!!

10. Beam-me-up-Scotty! Fun to say if you're messing around with your mates or you happen to be Captain James T. Kirk beaming up to the U.S.S. Enterprise 1701.

Las Vegas Trekkie Fun

UPDATED The biggest sci fi celebration is just moments away from thrilling earthies at the planets coolest hotel set in Las Vegas. Organised by Creation Entertainment, The Star Trek Experience Hilton Hotel had everything for the science fiction fan. The owners spent a cool 50 million bucks in creating this ultimate trekkie magnet and then ripped it all down! GAWD now that was totally sacrilegious!!!

Fans used to hangout in Quark's bar or visit the USS Enterprise-D's bridge. Now it gone, sniff. The hotel had even got a souvineer star trekking store and many other wonderful attractions. There were models of popular trek characters and ships located all around the hotel. The lizard gorn and U.S.S. Enterprise 1701-D were my favourites.

The Las Vegas Convention kicks off tomorrow and the programme lasts from 9th to 12th August. Those were the good ol' days. Trekkers beamed in from all over the Galaxy to share in the fun event which included Celebrity guest appearances, parties, food functions, photo ops, autographing, vendors, auctions, contests live music, comedy and a host of other surprises.

It pains me to report the Star Trek Experience is now Gone but it was fun while it lasted.

Its going to be one helluva gathering of cosmic earthies united in galactic friendship!

Live Long and have fun Trekkers!

Spooky Science Fiction Thrills

In 2364 Captain Picard nearly leapt to deadly sci fi oblivion caused by a dicey experiment involving space, time and thought. Picture Captain Jean-Luc Picard gasping for air, as the cold abyss of outerspace squeezed the living life out of his body, much like that horrible aliens creature which Lt. Ripley fed into the maw of space. I leapt up from my seat for joy when that freaky mutant got iced. It was Yesss! Yesss! Yesss! So long sucker.

However, Jean Luc's death would have left Trekkies weeping everywhere. He's our last hope for peace in the Federation. Sniff. The Darth Vaders of the universe would have the place in complete ruins!

I love the Picard doorway just hanging in space, with cosmic starlines whizzing by the terrified captain as he clings to the Enterprise for dear life. I get a thrilling wave of terrific excitement when I watch this. Patrick Steward's acting sci-fi presence clearly demonstrates how spooky and exciting outerspace can be. Great job captain.

It was really a clueless propulsion expert Lt. Kosinski and his "traveller" buddy with his unpronounceable name, who are responsible for the U.S.S. Enterprise's mysterious journey to galaxy M33. Kosinski's brainless calculations actually had everyone confused for ages! LOL. Except the "BOY" Yes, geeky Wesley. Still the Enterprise ended up 2,700,000 light years from home and guess what? The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701-D was lost!. Now how could that have happened?

Its not often you get to see Picard weirded out by the laws physics aboard his own starship. The guy's actually afraid!!! You see it on his face. The episode Where No One Has Gone Before is loosely based on Diane Duane's Star Trek novel, The Wounded Sky. Except its with Captain James T. Kirk commanding. Yes, that old spacehound. Kirk has star trekked where no man has gone before!

Sci Fi Fun Facts

Behind the mask, breathing heavily is Darth Vader. Darth vader is one of the most gripping sci fi characters, that I have encountered on my intergalactic trek of the blogsphere. When Vader's gets mad, his opponents usually experience the wrath of the darkside and die quite horribly. Fans associate the unique Tie Bomber as Vaders starship vehicle of choice. The Ties design is one of gothic evil fully intended to be a terrifying psychological weapon produced to strike fear into enemies hearts by "wailing" and terrorizing them before battle has even begun. Vader's patience for Princess Leia (of the planet Alderaan.) eventually runs out. Leia was put on Darth Vader's torture short list and the dark lord of doom, destroyed her home world for good measure too.

Author JJ Palomo (JJ)

Your skills are no match for the Power of the Dark Side. You will pay the price for your lack of vision. Emperor Palpatine uses his fiery powers in a attempt to destroy Luke Skywalker, while the former Jedi knight now engulfed in darkness stands by and watches until he can bear it no more..... watch the trailer. It doesn't sit well with the heavy breather because Luke spared Vader with mercy. I love this Star Wars scene. Palpatine gets a close up view of the ships reactor shaft. Lol. Notice how Vader struggles with his breathing now that his link with Palpatine and the dark side is severed. The mask comes off......to reveal a shocking, blister ridden, pale faced creature beneath.

Worf begins a relationship with Dax aboard DS9. They fall in love and we get to see a Klingon wedding ceremony for the first time.

Believers Babylon 5 - Vorlon Ambassador Kosh Naranek.
This is a heart rendering episode where a doctor operates on a boy in order to save his life, thus rendering him a soulless demon in the eyes of the boys parents. The terrified boy learns of his fate and tries to escape! His parents even handed him a special "travel robe" used for sacrifices. Poor guy, as General Chang aptly put it in Star Trek the Undiscovered Country. - Parting is such sweet sorrow. -

Ok, ok! Everyone from non-aligned worlds get in line.

Londo is attempting to exterminate a rather large bug that has got into his quarters. A beautiful young Centauri, Lyndisty, enters his room. How inconvenient!!!!! Luckily shes Vir's arranged bride. Creepy crawlies on the loose make an impression, especially big ones. My sister freaks out every time. Of course I'm called to the rescue, so I remove the harmless creature and set it free. No need for my ray gun.

I have already been born once & quite sufficiently I think.
Babylon 5 - Ambassador G'kar:
Can not say. Saying, would know. Do not know, so can not say!

Babylon 5 - Zatheris, War Without End Zathrus had a sad life;
Epsilon III is one of Babylon 5 episodes which involves the Great Machine. It reminded me of Spocks Brain although the Great Machine had incredible galactic knowledge whereas the Eymorg's "controller" machine was just common knowledge to the inhabitants of the Sigma Draconis VI planet... and Captain James Tiberius Kirks' Enterprise 1701 crew.

I am endeavoring to construct a pneumatic memory circuit using stone knives and bear skins.
Spock was constructing a tricorder, Stardate: 3134.0 which proved vital to the mission.
The City on the Edge of Forever

Scotty: I beamed the whole kit and caboodle over to the Klingon's engine room... where they'll be no Tribble at all. Star Trek TOS - The Trouble With Tribbles.

The Klingon's later viewed Tribbles as a threat to the Klingon home world. They reacted with fury and unforgivably hunted them down. It was hardly one of the great triumphs for the mighty Klingon empire! Poor Tribble critters. Read my post on Tribbles and Klingons! When Tribbles are near, Klingon's have plenty to fear which proved true. These warm furry creatures make good detectives and are good for rooting out Klingon spies!

Excuse me, there is a multi-legged creature crawling up your shoulder.

Maybe Geordi isn't such a smarty pants after all. The Pakleds want to be strong, want their ship to go faster and look for things...such as.... Geordi actually has to ask. Things like GEORDI!

"Things we need" in other words you! Geordi. Duh! and you beamed over. Who's not so smart now? The Pakleds are smart and funny.

Star Trek TNG - Q

Q: 'Let us pray for understanding and for compassion.

Data: Sensors still show nothing out there.
Geordie: Sure is a damned ugly looking nothing! This is the episode the Enterprise D crew encounter a mysterious space entity called Nagillum. He tried so hard to configure a human face to please the Enterprise carbon based life forms.

No-one was impressed. Nagillums demands on the crew were even more distressing, after it revealed an experiment that involved killing only half the crew. No-one felt obligated to raise their hands. Its an interesting episode in that we get to hear Captain Picard's views on the universe, life after death, where do carbon based life forms go afterwards etc. I love this episode because its so mysterious and spooky.
Star Trek TNG - Where Silence has Lease.

Data: 'I hope I did not do anything unbecoming a Starfleet officer.
Riker: 'Does wrestling a Klingon targ ring a bell?
Data: 'Did I win?
Star trek TNG - The Schizoid Man.

Riker: 'No, the name of my ship is the 'Lollipop'.
Rice: 'I have no knowledge of that ship.
Riker: 'It's just been commissioned. It's a good ship.
Star Trek TNG - The Arsenal Of Freedom, This is an interesting episode because we get to see the Enterprise NCC 1701-D separate and its Geordi La Forge's first time in charge of a starship much to Logan's bitterness.

Dr Bashier: 'Who told you that?
Miles O'Brien: 'You did!

Star Trek -

Generations
Heres a site with some interesting continuity errors that you can look out for next time star trek is on Tv!

"This is no time to argue about time... We don't have the time." Deanna Troi.
Star Trek The Next Generation - First Contact, Captain Picard's empath, Deanna Troi gets totally wasted in a scene by the time Commander Riker finds her in the bar shack. I mean, why was it necessary for Deanna to get totally skulled out of her head before Zeffram Cochrane revealed who he was?. We soon learn the Bar shack is where rocket man likes to hang out, knocking back the good stuff and chilling out with his music. I find it hard to believe that the counsellor's mind reading abilities failed to detect Zeffram Cochrane true identity. How many times has counsellor Troi given Picard the edge on the bridge of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701-D by revealing the other sides modus of operandi? Congratulations Martina, I never once considered critising your counselling techniques!

"You say history considers me dead. Who am I to argue with history?" Captain Jean Luc Picard's mission involved recruiting Captain James Tiberius Kirk's help (who was stuck in an Energy Nexus, frozen in time) and defeating the mad scientist Dr. Tolian Soran, performed by Malcolm McDowell.
James T. Kirk: Who am I to argue with the Captain of the Enterprise?
Kirk to Picard : Star Trek : Generations.

Star Trek - The Undiscovered Country. Starfleet recalls James Kirk's crew so that the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701-A can be decomissioned. I remember, the crew falling silent on the bridge of the Enterprise as Uhura delivered the fatal news. Starfleet's communication stunned Trekkies to their seats that fateful day sending shockwaves sweeping thoughout cinemas worldwide. The phaser blast was certainly a big surprise to everyone with allot of Star Trek fans reacting like they were vaporised in their cinema seats where they sat rooted in agony. I simply couldn't believe my ears. Spocks response was " I believe if I were human my response would be - Go To Hell - if I were human." That settled it. Starfleet be dammed which brought a great end to the human adventure for the crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701-A.
Chekov: 'Course heading, Captain?
Kirk: 'Second star to the right and straight on till morning.

Space Pirates and Space Heroes

The driving force of many Science fiction shows often embroils starship commanders pitted against unreasonable space pirates. In Star Wars, Darth Vader represents the dark side of the force. His corrupt emotions makes him a great space pirate. I loved the scene in the Empire Strikes Back when Vader grabbed Emperor Palpatine and flung him down the death star's reactor shaft, all to save Luke Skywalker. It was great. Later we find out who the man behind the mask is. We need our science fictional heroes to seek out and defeat galactic enemies of peace.

"Fire when ready, Mr Checkov. Lay in a pattern, fire, fire, fire!" is the Kirk attitude! When a ship gets blown to blue blazes or the bad is guy melted by a ray gun, hey thats what you call sci fi exhilaration. My reaction is nearly always, Yessss!!

A great story creates a sense of danger like a threat to the ship or an invasion force beaming aboard just to get the viewer excited! And it works!! I sure didn't feel sorry for Commander Kruge when Kirk shoved him over the cliff on the Genesis planet in Star Trek III. Kirk and Kruge had been fighting for ages and the klingon had it coming. After all, Kruge had Kirk's son David, murdered. Kirk gets his revenge on the ugly Klingon brute who's trying to drag the captain to his death. Finally Kirk has enough! He gives ugly a boot in the face and sends the Klingon warlord flying into the fiery abyss of Genesis flames below. See you sucker! Geeze, those flames sure must have hurt!!!

When the entertaining, clever android, Commander Data in Star Trek's TNG movie "Nemesis", got blown to bits aboard Praetor Shinzon's ship, it was different. I wasn't celebrating when Shinzon's ship went sky high. I was stunned and thinking wheres Data gone, much like Data's Enterprise-D crew mates. Unfortunately there was no escape pod or floating Data in space.

It was a blunt act for the studio to play on the fans. The Trekkies were hit hard. I was left in a state of puzzled, emotional turmoil. My android hero Data was gone. Sniff, maybe its a hit trend. So which sci fi hero is going to be snuffed out next?

I've recently learnt from trektoday that William Shatner aka Captain James T. Kirk is not going to be in Star Trek XI. What a shocker. Spock, Kirk(TOS) and co-stars work a special magic onscreen. So why delay? New isn't always better. You'd think Paramount could make Trek films with new talent anytime. The "current movie talent" TOS and TNG are missed badly...

William Shatner was very disappointed, but Leonard Nimoy aka Spock got a part. It'll be good to see pointy ears again.

Star Trek XI is the movie where the "trio" Kirk, Spock, and McCoy get to meet up as young men, going back to their academy days.

Moving on, in 1978 the Daily Intelligencer caught my interest. Seemingly Cylon Warriors have a Prime Directive and it doesn't concern ethics or non interference with other cultures. Oh No. The Cylon Prime Directive involves seeking out and destroying all earthling lifeforms. Gasp. Imagine watching that, doesn't it send a shiver of excitement down your back?...

Which Sci Fi Character Am I?

Here he is, the Dark Lord of Doom himself, the baddest Sci Fi guy in the whole universe. Look at him. He's calculating which pesky foe to defeat next. The U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701-D crew scarpered for their lives when 400 gigawatts of particle energy made Starfleet's Captain Jean Luc Picard think twice about attacking. It was shameful. Picard shamed trekkies everywhere that day, but he saved his starship by reacting cowardly. Sniff. Worf must have felt humiliated. I was so choked up with soppy emotionalism.
The evil dark lord uses his power aligned with fear, hatred, aggression, and malevolence to crush his enemies. The dark side of the Force is more powerful than the light side which is concerned with elegance and beauty. So whats his name? If you have'nt guessed the Sci Fi Character by now, the first link will reveal who I'm talking about. Enjoy the movie. My final word is, this movie is vader sci fi propaganda, be warned Lol. Never underestimate the power of the dark side......

The Voyage Home

The year was 2285. Out of the vast darkness of space, a mysterious probe appears in earths orbit. Its high pitched distressing communications, interfere severely with the planets environment and all surrounding power sources, including starships. Earthlings are powerless and panic is rife. All of Starfleet is on red alert. The probe is the bad guy and wants to find out why his friendly humpback whales are no longer answering. Little does it know humans have murdered them to extinction.

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television.

Star Trek IV, The Voyage Home is a supreme space adventure concerning an extremely powerful alien probe, Time travel, late 20th century paranoid earthlings, Captain Kirk's heroic crew of explorers, a Klingon ship and the small matter of saving earth with George and Gracie. Packed with wit, mischief, neat special effects, a funny Spock and great storyline, the Voyage Home is one of my favourite Star Trek movies. Star Trek IV is epic in nature and spirit and has all the ingredients of a great sci fi movie.

After three months of exile on Vulcan, Kirk decides to return to Earth with his loyal, gallant Enterprise crew mates, in a Klingon B'rel-class, Bird of Prey to face charges of theft, damage and saving Mr Spock's life.

The odds of returning in one piece in the enemy's shabby Klingon ship, did little to inspire Dr Mc Coys confidence. He named their new ship "HMS Bounty" courtesy of the Klingon Empire and Lord Kruge of course, who got snuffed out by Kirk on the Genesis planet. Yessss! The crew voted in favor of going back to Earth and facing federation justice for their "crimes." So much for being the good guys.

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television.

Kruge's stolen D-12 Scout rattled and groaned as the crew approached warp speed. I remember this had me on the edge of my seat, rooting for my heroes as I prepared myself for our warp 10 around the sun. I felt like part of the crew. This was an exhilarating moment for me and my eyes never left the screen. When the "Bounty"crew did arrive at earth it seemed so realistic. When I was a young Trekkie, I recall looking out the Klingon viewer on TV and seeing earth. Kirk's crew had arrived secretly. Wow I said, "This is whats its like in space."

Spock asks Kirk about the use of language which has altered since their arrival. "It is currently laced with colourful metaphors."Double dumb ass on you" and so forth " enquires Spock innocently.

"You mean the profanity, that's simply the way the way they talk here. Nobody pays any attention to you if you don't swear every other word. You'll find it in all the literature of the period." replies Kirk.

Spock: For example?

Kirk: Oh the complete works of Jacqueline Susann, the novels of Harrold Robbins....

Spock: Ah.... The Giants....

It was the ships chronic condition, whining dilithium crystals, destabilising hull, warping around the sun, the chase around the hospital, and Chekov's capture by earthlings that really got me amped. I realised anyone of these could put "the mission" in serious jeopardy. McCoys dialogue with the hospital surgeon is hilarious, Spock gets to grips after coming back from the dead with amusing "best guesses" for his usually precise time computations. Stay clued for Spock's profanity on the planet. Star Trek IV really is a pleasure to watch. The cursing bit is just so not Spock but Spock despite Captain Kirks vain attempts just can't remember.

KIRK: Spock.....
SPOCK: Yes?

KIRK: About those colorful metaphors we discussed. I don't think you should try to use them.
SPOCK: Why not?
KIRK :Well, for one thing, you haven't quite got the hang of it.
SPOCK: I see.
KIRK :And another thing... It is not always necessary to tell the truth.
SPOCK :I cannot tell a lie.
KIRK :You don't have to lie... You could exaggerate.
SPOCK :Exaggerate.
KIRK :You've done it before. Can't you remember?
SPOCK :The hell I can't
KIRK :(Sighs) What else did you learn from your mind meld?
SPOCK: They are very unhappy about the way their species has been treated by man.
KIRK :They have a right to be... Do you think they'll help us?
SPOCK I believe I was successful in communicating our intentions.

The real stars of the movie "George and Gracie" were two Humpbacked whales. They respond to the mystery space caller, after Kirk warps 300 years into the past and beams them away from their 1986 hostile environment. 23rd century earth of the future filled with Starfleet hopefuls is saved. Yes! It worked. Earth was saved. lets not forget however that the plight of 21st century whales is a real one which the movie clearly demonstrates.
Here's some amusing dialogue between an extremely worried Dr "Bones" McCoy as he demands of kirk,

" Are you sure this is such s bright idea?"
"What do you mean?" answers Kirk calmly.
"I mean him, back at his post like nothing happened. I don't know if you've got the whole picture but Spock's not exactly working on all thrusters!!" retorts a worked up McCoy

"It'll come back to him" reassures Kirk with doubt written all over his face.
"Are you sure?" presses McCoy
Kirks looking lost now.
"Thats what i thought." An anguished McCoy leaves Kirks side.
"Mr Sulu, take us home." commands Kirk.

Kirk seemed to take Mc Coys antics in his stride. Its a pity McCoy didn't prescribe himself some of his own medicine! A hypospray or two is good for you! Doc! It would have done wonders for his stress levels. Uhuru which means freedom in Swahili was at her communications station.

Sulu was at the helm and Chekov was at the weapons station. The plan was to warp the Bounty around the sun accounting for time computation, warp capability acceleration and decelerating the ship mass, etc and of course most important of all,

" making the best guess that I can." said Spock earnestly to Dr McCoy at a critical moment.
Scotty held the ship together in the engine room with the re-energized Klingon crystals. One of his funniest lines in the movie is when he informed Kirk,

" Admiral I have replaced the Klingon food packs, they were giving me a sour stomach!"
" O, Is that what it was?" Clearly Kirk discovered something only he didn't care for the details.

One solar flare colliding with the Bounty could have sent them off course but the ship survived. The slingshot around the sun succeeded saving the whales from Earth of the past in time to save 23rd century mankind from a destructive interstellar space probe.. The HMS Bounty and the Enterprise crew sweep down on Planet Earth just in time to release the whales. The message in the movie is these endangered humpback whales belong on our world just as much as humans. Its is because of our activities there is only one third of Humpbacks roaming the Seven Seas so we've got to stop the slaughter and pollution of our oceans. The Voyage Home has been hailed as one of Star Trek's popular and successful movies and I highly recommend watching this movie.

Picard wrecks Vaders Star Destroyer

Star Trek's Enterprise NCC 1701-D Rules! Captain Picard wrecked Darth Vaders Super Star destroyer and beat his forces of evil into submission. Bye, Bye, little ships. Woo Hoo! Star Trek is the best! This is fun to watch, its like watching a sci fi movie!
"Thats carrying enough arnament tp pulverise a planet." warns Riker.
" Red alert, battle stations, bring us to an attack posture Mr Worf!" commands Picard.
" Fire at Will!" bellows Picard with a confused looking Riker following his captains lead.

Remember Governor Wilhuff Tarkin in Star Wars? His crew got blown to smithereens on the Star Destroyer's bridge with Vader nearby, yet somehow Vader survives the attack and subsequent collapse of their viewscreen. I guess no-one can kill that evil lord!!! Hmmmmm... Neither were the crew sucked out into the vacuum of space either which would have been totally amusing. There's dark side forces at work here, or maybe it was the ships emergency force fields that saved them.

The upshot of it is some unimportant general guy croaks it on the bridge along with another crewman that gets iced when the Federations Flagship Enterprise, blows Vaders Super Star Destroyer to bits. Lets be soooooo clear about this. The Star Destroyer was a burning hulk of metal in space! WooHoo! Yet at the very end... the Generals crew is ALIVE with Vader. So while Captain Picard's Enterprise conquered Vader's Super Star Destroyer, more like totally pulverized and wasted it..... YESSSS!!!! The Federation beat an Imperial Super Star Destroyer! YESSSS, (This is a momentous occasion for Trekkies.) Vader apparently wins on a technicality because he's still alive with the reincarnated crew of Governor Tarkin. Meh. This just can't be allowed. I must Protest! Watch the vid and judge for yourselves.

Curse that sagging rust bucket!!!! It's not fair, we Trekkies won!! We did!! but
Darkside Star Warsians got the better of us. Trekkie fans must demand a rematch. Of course Emperor Palpatine gangs up on the beleaguered Enterprise and Picard turns chicken, hastening the Enterprises speedy departure obviously added to make the Federation look cowardly. Like Trekkies so needed Q right about now, where was that dude? D-mn Picard, if it had been Kirk in command, he would have kicked ass. My guess is the maker of this Star Wars video is obviously one of Vader's dark side associates. Perhaps its Vader Propaganda but totally awesome fun to watch. I reckon Picard's Galaxy Class USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D still won? and Darth Vader's Star Destroyer got wasted. Hehehe....

Do not underestimate the power of the USS Enterprise! Live long and Prosper Trekkies!

Reasons why Kirk is better than Picard.

Here are reasons why Kirk is better than Picard. However before you take my word for it, Trekkie citizens of the Federation, warp over to startrekkie.com who believe Picard is better than Kirk!

You tell me, is James Tiberius Kirk or Jean Luc Picard the superior commander!! Remember Kirk has saved Earth from total extermination! but don't be swayed, Here are my reasons why Kirk is better than Picard:

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television.

Kirk faces his enemies in a final showdown, face to face and does'nt fear beaming down to planets.

Kirk knows how to defeat hostile aliens with Federation firepower and is'nt bothered about blowing them to smithereens either.

Not so on Picard's Enterprise. Jean Luc first finds out what Deanna Troi is feeling, next Picard asks for suggestions and then orders Yar to hail the enemy ship!!!

Kirk meanwhile has already given the word. FIRE! FIRE! FIRE!!!

Kirk would personally throw Wesley out the airlock!

But Picard has given Wesley Crusher countless second chances despite the crew of the Federation's flagship USS Enterprise being placed in mortal danger by the nerdlings experiments.

Kirk does'nt believe in double talk, but Picard likes informing and squealing his way out of trouble.

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television.

Picard doesn't like to get his hands dirty, fighting mere mortals or punching. He leaves that to Worf, Riker or Data, while he waits on the bridge.(I have never seen Picard kill Klingons in hand to hand combat. Thats a joke.)

Kirk fights bad dudes all over the galaxy. Kruge was one and he snuffed out Kirk's only son David. Klingon Kruge was shoved over a cliff edge to his firey death for his trouble.

Kirk earned himself a reputation at Starfleet Academy as the only cadet to have beaten the "no-win" Kobayashi Maru scenario.

Kirk has more awards and commendations than Picard.

Kirk is prepared for hand to hand fisticuffs, but Picard prefers to converse in conversation.

Kirk seduces women but Picard shouts at them. Remember Lilly?

Kirk has a real warm human heart but Picard has a cold heart of steel.

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television.

Kirk exposes plots, foils Klingons, fights baddies, blows up ships and has saved Earth.

Picard is the good captain guy who maintains the peace through peaceful negotiations aboard the Federation's mighty flagship Enterprise.

Kirk saved Earth by repopulating the whale species with George and Gracie and introduced them to 23rd century Earth.

Kirk's the young guy with hair. Picard is the old bald guy. (Remember I'm still skylarking.)

Kirk calls the shots on his ship with his second in command never telling him what to do. Science Officer Spock was Kirk's second in command and respected the chain of command.

Picard got himself kidnapped ten times!

Picard is French and has worn tights. Kirk never wears tights!

Kirk drinks Romulan Ale and Saurian Brandy. Captain Picard favourite drink is Earl Grey Tea!

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television.

Kirk saves his crew members (Spock's Brain) (Search For Spock) but Picard is ruthless with his. Remember Ensign Lynch who got assimulated by the Borg? Picard yanked out Lynch's neuroprocessor in front of Lilly Sloan, whose shocked response is "Tough Luck eh?"

In one alternate future, Picard captains a more agressive Starfleet vessel during prolonged unrest with the Klingons. Kirk had to do battle with Klingons all the time during the 23rd century.

Kirk knew Tribbles made good detectives and were good at rooting out Klingon spies. These warm furry creatures with no teeth invaded Kirk's Enterprise and K7 but the price was well worth it. Trekkie.com believe Tribbles would'nt stand a chance against Picard. Everyone at least deserves one chance?

Robotic Heroes

What makes a robot tick? or even an android. Commander Data of the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D for instance is immortal, so he has nothing to fear you might think. He has the strength of 10 men, doesn't rust, has an exhaustive computer memory and until 2371 was completely emotionless, when Dr Noonien Soong's (Data's human father) emotion chip was finally installed. Beforehand Data was completely fail safe and ruthless with his opponents. He had the equivalent fighting android capabilities for taking on the T800 Hk Terminator.

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television

The Enterprise android is not without his flaws. The installation of Dr Soong's emotion chip initially made Data a weak, emotional android unable to master a flood of human emotionalism. Data's other Achilles heel was his master switch, known only to his Enterprise friends. It effectively put the chief of Operations in sleep mode or deactivated him. Lore has used his brothers vulnerabilities to control him for his own ghastly schemes. Let it be said, Commander Data's noted capabilities far outweigh his faults.

In Star Trek's TNG "The Measure of a Man" Data's rights to choose are challenged. A hearing is assembled on the starbase. Data's future and all future androids in the galaxy rest solely on the successful outcome of Captain Picard's Defense of Data. Fortunately Mr Data is not deemed the property of Starfleet Command but a sentient lifeform with entitlements on equal footing to his flawed earthling friends. WhooHoo!!

The question is who would win hand to hand combat to the death? Commander Data or the T800 Hunter Killer?

The fact is no-one knows what makes our favourite artificial friend tick. Even cyberneticist Commander Bruce Maddox who determined the androids suitability to enrol Starfleet Academy was flummoxed by the complexity of Data's Positronic Brain. The Enterprise's artificial whizz is just too complex to fathom. Gene Roddenberry's android Trek Star has become a really famous and cherished figure worldwide, played by Brent Spiner who has a huge fan base.

Part of the android Data magic can be credited to his mystical "positronic brain" imagined and written by Isaac Asimov in his first robot stories from 1939 on. Asimov's delightful sci-fi words (positronic) have sharpened star trek lingo and have contributed to the global success it is today. It is because of Data's special features and achievements that our artificial friend has been added to a list of four robotic creations to join Carnegie Mellon University's Hall of Fame.

Romulan D'deridex Class Warbird

This intimidating warbird was first seen in Star Trek The Next Generation. It happened in 2364 when Captain Picard's Enterprise was called to investigate disturbances along the neutral zone. It was 53 years, seven months and eighteen days since last contact, in 2311 ( after the Tomed incident- Captain Kirk) was made with the pointy eared Vulcan offshoots.

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television.

Meanwhile Dr Crusher is busy thawing out frozen humans who had snuffed it in the late 21st century, which Data thoughtfully salvaged earlier. When the sneaky Romulans do show up, they finally agree with Picard to work together and figure out whos been destroying their Outposts. "The Neutral Zone" is a good episode with some very funny lines. It also laid the groundwork necessary for many other story lines.

"Data why did you bring them back to the ship?" - Capt Picard

"It was either that or leave them there, sir." replies Data

"But Data they were already dead."- Capt Picard

"Yes sir, I see your point sir ." answers Data

"Well they're alive now. We're going to have to treat them as real living human beings!" - Picard

Patrick Steward did a great job here playing the unimpressed commander and the scene between himself and Brent Spiner is priceless. It makes me laugh every time. The captain gave no thanks to Data for saving three people from oblivion!

The Imperial Romulan Warbird, D'deridex class or type B is equipped with covert cloaking technology. Its almost twice the size of Captain Picard's Galaxy Class Federation Flagship Enterprise NCC 1701-D and is a formidable adversary in combat, developed approx 2345.

Its dangerous and virtually undetectable cloaking device is even more effective by cutting power and staying motionless in space. The Treaty of Algeron has kept the peace between the Federations (U.F.P) and Romulans for over 50 years. It forbids Starfleet from developing cloaking technology.

It is disputed that the D'deridex class warbird is more powerful than a klingon bird of prey. In the late 23rd century, during the Romulan/Klingon Alliance Romulans traded their precious cloaking technology for Klingon D-6 Raxor and D-7 Klolode battle cruisers. . The latest Romulan cloaking technology is superior however, to Klingon cloaks. Romulan cloaking technology remains undetectable to Klingon sensors, not surprising really considering Romulan Scientists created the Cloaking Device.

The Romulan ship has powerful firepower with aft and forward disruptor cannons, however these may not be fired when cloaked. Like the USS Enterprise NCC 1701, Romulans use photon torpedoes, but they prefer disruptors over phasers. All warbird shield protection is non functional when the ship is cloaked.

The power source of the warbird is a forced artificial quantum singularity, similar to a miniature black hole, unlike federation starships which rely on matter anti/matter cores for energy and warp propulsion. The menacing bird of war is fitted with a tractor beam and is always in a state of alert, ready for battle with charged disruptors.

The ship does not have separation capability or landing struts, nor is it highly manoeuvrable due to its bulk which measures 1200 meters in length. The warbird is warp capable with a top speed of just less than the federation's flagship. Lets hear it now, Aaaahhh, What a shame. All that spiffy technology. Captain Picard's Enterprise NCC 1701-D can out manoeuvre pointy eared space satans in their spooky green ships easily. So who's the best? Who's the best? Why the good guy is!! The Romulan crew quarters are located in the forward section of the Warbird as is the ship's Bridge, which has navigation, scanning and engineering stations. The nucleus of all the Romulan D'deridex Class activities.

Nyota Uhura

In 1966 Nichelle Nichols played Lieutenant Nyota Uhura for three seasons going boldly where no woman has gone before. In 2266 Uhura took to the stars aboard the original USS Enterprise NCC 1701 in her most famous role as Communications Officer entertaining viewers with her "Hailing frequencies open, Captain." Her character is eventually promoted in Starfleet to the rank of Commander. Indeed Uhura reached deep into the hearts and minds of trek fans right accross the space time continuum and proved to be a valuable technician manning the USS Enterprise 1701. Under the command of Captain Kirk, Uhura is responsible for all incoming and outgoing starship communications. Her bridge responsibilities require establishing first contact with alien worlds, bypassing and repairing communication starship systems, detecting and isolating communication signals, responding to distress calls, warning the Captain and raising Starfleet Command.

Uhura can always be relied upon to cheer up the USS Enterprise by singing and seranading to her fellow crew mates in song. In fact her most shocking interstellar experience occured on stardate 3541.9 when the Enterprise was taken over by the space probe Nomad. The probe misunderstood Uhura's singing of 'Beyond Antares,'which she was fond of and assimulated all her memories in an effort to correct a malfunctioning biological unit. Captain Kirk was naturally displeased with Nomad but fortunately Dr Mc Coy's skilled medical techniques restored Uhura's memory to within fully operational starship parameters.

On stardate 5784.2, Uhura performed the first groundbreaking kiss between an Africian-American and a Caucasian, controlled by alien empaths, she was forced to kiss her commanding officer, Captain James T. Kirk in Platos Stepchildren. It was too bad for Trekkies in Europe because it was over 25 years before British television allowed it to be broadcast. Thats how delayed Europe is to the Americas. The history of Star Trek from the 1960s to 2007, depicts conflicts leading to the eventual rise and rapid emancipation of women on tv, films, the internet and societies accross theglobe. Nichelle Nichols, Whoopi Goldberg as Guinan in Star Treks TNG TenForward, JoanCollins as Edith Keeler in Star Trek's 'The City on the Edge of Forever', Mary Mc Alese as President of Ireland, Governor Sarah Palin and Sonia O'Sullivan have succeeded and become major forces to be reckoned with.

In 1968 Star Trek took the first step with Nichelle Nichols and it was a very neat one indeed despite NBC insisting that Kirk and Uhura's lips not be captured on camera. Even so, Nichols states in her book, 'Saturn's Child,' that the kiss was real. Because she is both female and black, Lieutenant Uhura represents two disparate communities united in the shape of one actress. Its interesting to note how far society as a whole has come all because of Star Trek and Nichelle's chance encounter with Martin Luther King. He urged her to remain on as Communications Officer because her character served as a role model not only for blacks but for everyone. Luther's words had such an effect on Nichol's that she later revealed in a "20/20" interview, "I knew that now black children must look at me on that ship even if I was pushing some buttons and know that 'this is a person that I can identify with, that I can emulate.'" One of those kids was Whoopi Goldberg, who told Starlog magazine, "I've been a Trekkie from way back. The only time you ever saw black people in the future was on Star Trek." In 1987 the Enterprise Starship Legacy lived on in the crew of the USS Enterprrise NCC 1701-D. Nichelle and Whoopi may not be in the captain's chair yet but Guinan is on the Flagship of the Federation and Lieutenant Uhura is on the Bridge of the USS Enterprise NCC 1701.

Kiss long and Prosper, Trekkies!

Worfs Warrior Code

There is no honour in boring an enemy to death says "Worf" from Star Trek's The Next Generation who lives by the Klingon code of honour.

Image Copyright Belongs to Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television.

The Code of all Fierce Klingon Warriors.

1. There's nothing shameful in falling to a superior enemy.
2. Klingons appreciate strong women.
3. Only fools have no fear.
4. Do not mock Klingons. It makes us angry.
5. The true test of a warrior is not without it is within.
6. Klingons do not take prisoners.
7. Every Klingon hopes to die in the line of duty.
8. Klingons do not play with toys.
9. Survive and Succeed!
10. Prunejuice is a warriors drink!
11. Every Klingon hopes to die in battle, better to die on your feet than serve on your knees.
12. Take the simpler approach. If words do not come easily, say nothing at all.
13. A friend may become an enemy in less time than it takes to draw a dagger.
14. Four thousand throats my be cut in one night by a running man.
15. Drink not with your enemies.
16. Revenge is a dish best served cold.
17. Men do not roar. Women roar. Then they hurl heavy objects. And claw at you.
18. Resistance is futile. Oh Yeah? Assimilate This! Kaaboom.
19. Klingons never do anything small. Maybe today is a good day to die! Prepare for ramming speed!
20. You question the worthiness of my Code? I should kill you where you stand!
21. Behold the mighty warrior Kahless the Unforgettable! The greatest Klingon code-warrior who ever lived!
22. Human weaklings fear Bat'leth combat. They are of no concern to warriors.
23. All warriors are cold warriors in space.
24. Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war!
25. Parting is such sweet sorrow, do we not hear the chimes at midnight?

Worf's Klingon Bat'leth means sword of honour. Even though this is Science Fiction, its interesting to note how a weapon of death is looked upon with such admiration.

Behold the keyboard of Spacerguy: The sword in your enemy's heart is the sword in your own, for you are he.

Space The Final Frontier

Space The Final Frontier. These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise. Its Five Year Mission, to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new civilisations. To boldly go where no man has gone before.

So wheres Captain Kirk and the U.S.S Enterprise NCC 1701? Why out there, somewhere in the swirling cosmic clouds of the Milkyway, second star to the right.

The fact is our "tin plated dictator with delusions of godhood", Kirk has warped out of sensor range. Theres just far too many epic battles to be waged. Maybe next time Trekkies. There have been many times when conflict with the Romulans has been unavoidable. The Federation's battles with the Romulan Star Empire resulted in the formation of the Neutral Zone in 2160.

Image Owner/Creator: Paramount Pictures and/or CBS Studios

It interesting to note that the Earth/Romulan war as it is known led to the formation of the Romulan/Federation Neutral Zone because both sides wanted Peace. It was called the Earth/Romulan War because the Federation was established as a planetary state known as United Earth which kicked off in 2063. Zefram Cochrane established an earth alliance with the Vulcans who noticed his first warp space flight during First Contact. The constitution of the United Federation of Planets was created in 2161. Captain Picard's U.S.S. Enterprise NCC 1701-D managed to prevent a Borg invasion proving that even "human weaklings" can stand up and be counted.

Ferengi Fun Facts

A Ferengi male is expected to remember and follow all of the 285 Ferengi Rules of Acquisition. The Ferengi Rules are actually quite funny. Ferengi Females are forbidden to quote the rules and wear clothes due to their second class residential status. Ferengi Law bans females from ever making business deals.

Image Copyright Belongs To Paramount Pictures or CBS Paramount Television

The first Rule of Acquisition was written 10,000 years ago by the Original Grand Negus. His name was Gint. When Zek's (Current Grand Negus) greedy personality was changed by aliens he encountered in the Bajorian Wormhole, Zek revised the Ferengi Rules of Acquisition.

Quark and Rom of DS9 were horrified. Every good Ferengi follows the Rules with religious devotion from an early age. The use of the Bajorian Orb had a drastic effect on Zek and in his lunatic condition, the Grand Negus set up the Ferengi Benevolent Society. Fortunately for Ferengi everywhere, Zek's crazy personality was only temporary and the new society and rules were scrapped. Yee-ha!

Milky Way Quadrants

Seeking out new life on new civilizations is a job for Captain Picard's super fast Galaxy Class Enterprise NCC 1701-D. In our galaxy, the Milkyway is home for earth's happy ball of beings, Vulcans, Cardassians, Vidians, Romulans, Warrior Klingons (tolerant towards weakling humans), and friendly intelligent lifeforms too, all scattered across the stars in the great expanse of space. Diverse Intergalactic aliens live in the Gamma Quadrant, Delta Quadrant, Alpha Quadrant and Beta Quadrant. But who cares, right?

The galaxy is full of intelligent races and murderers, fascinating creatures really except beware! Some races like the flesh diseased Vidians only want to meet you, so they can steal your precious organs. These alien lifeforms will leave you gasping for your last breath of fresh air as darkness descends and closes in on you! Other bloodthirsty villains like Khan Noonian Singh set their sights a little higher and go after bigger fish to fry. Captain James T. Kirk encountered Khan with designs to exact revenge on the starship USS Enterprise NCC 1701 just to settle old scores. Its very cold in the vacuum of space. So don't get mad just get even!

The four quadrants of the Milkyway stretch across 100,000 light years with a center swell or black hole extending 10,000 light years. The Milkyway black hole has been nicknamed "The Monster" by experts studying physical and chemical properties of celestial bodies in the sector. Each quadrant is extremely large.

According to Spock's logical computations and analytical equations, each quadrant is estimated to be eight billion cubic light years, containing hundreds of thousands of sectors. A sector is a primary unit of measurement in charted space, 20 light years across and encompassing 5- 10 star systems.

The close proximity of the stars at the core of the spiral galaxy is dangerous to navigate for any starship. Black holes, dark energy and dark matter exists in the vast expanses of the universe so imagine running into one of those in your intrepid starship. In the reality of Star Trek, such encounters don't pose a great risk for Federation starships. Spacecraft simply navigate around them! HAHA! What about when USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D was thrown across space to Galaxy M33, on the far side of Triangulum.? Yes I did use the word "thrown." An impressive 2.7 million lightyears away from earth but fortunately thanks to the "Travellers" input the Enterprise-D brought everyone back! How extremely fortunate for Picard's ship. The crew escaped the galaxies bountiful pitfalls that should at the very least have trapped or gobbed up the Flagship USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D.

The unknown inspires us to make new discoveries. Its the only way earthlings can truly unlock the supreme mystique surrounding the celestial treasures in space, which is why we must continue with our space programme, develop our technologies, educate ourselves and build a wicked starship!

Which Science Fiction Character Are You?

Which Science Fiction Character Are you? Now is the time to find out!

An accomplished diplomat who can virtually do no wrong, you sometimes know it is best to rely on the council of others while holding the reins.

There are some words which I have known since I was a schoolboy. "With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably." These words were uttered by Judge Aaron Satie -- as a wisdom, and warning. The first time any man's freedom is trodden on, we're all damaged.

Jean-Luc Picard is a character from the Star Trek United Federation of Planets. Captain Picard commands the Galaxy Class Starship Enterprise NCC 1701-E. Starfleet Academy have trained officers who trust their captain because he has good gut instincts and moral fibre.
