Star Trek Fun and Babes

Had me some trek fun over at Trekmovie recently. What do we call J.J. Abrams now? A little birdie tells me the Star Trek vs Star Wars debate is about to kick off again. I mean you've got to agree with Basements Bloggers logic right? Star Trek has the hotter chicks!

Okay, Star Wars makes much more money and it took our director. I could say Star Trek is smarter and argue that point but it occurred to me that the Star Trek films have it in spades over Star Wars in this one respect-
STAR TREK HAS THE HOTTER CHICKS. Let’s go over the evidence.
1. Star Trek: The Motion Picture- Hot woman- Ilia
2. Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan- Saavik; Dr. Carol Marcus for us old guys.
3. Star Trek: The Search for Spock- Saavik; Uhura
4. Star Trek: The Voyage Home- Gillian; Marine biology is sexy.
5. Star Trek: The Final Frontier- Caithlin Dar, Romulan Ambassador
6. Star Trek; The Undiscovered Country- Martia?! Lt. Valeris, hey she was Samantha on some show I never watched.
7. Star Trek: Generations: Dr. Beverly Crusher, love that close up.
8. Star Trek: First Contact- Troi, Lily
9. Star Trek: Insurrection- Anij; okay another hottie for us old guys
10. Star Trek: Nemesis- Commander Donatra, Troi, Dr. Crusher for us old guys.
11. Star Trek- Uhura, Gaila-really don’t need the green skin.
vs.
Star Wars-
Princess Leia in Return of Jedi. Star Wars had her with a goofy hairstyle. Was too involved with the story to really drool over Leia. But Return needs only two words. Metal bikini.
The other movies? Nothing. Unless you count that female Gungan in the robot army battle.
The conclusion. Star Trek has the hotter chicks. Star Trek wins. Star Trek wins.

Well? Choose now Uhura or Leia!

Who's your wet dream sci-fi babe?

My Favorite Martian

You've probably guessed that I love Star Trek aliens in all shapes great and small. So my choice for Geektwin's 'My Favorite Martian' bloghop is Thermian Mathesar!

Every Sci Fi fan who's been curious about the merits of Science Fiction will definitely get a good chuckle out of Galaxy Quest. Tim Allen stars as Captain Jason Nesmith, Commander of the starship NSEA Protector when the unthinkable happens. The plug is pulled on Nesmith's "Galaxy Quest" show tossing our 'defenders of the galaxy' out in the cold. Its funny watching Nesmith grabbing all the media attention while his washed up crew do all the legwork attending sci-fi conventions etc where loyal fans still adore them eighteen years later. Surely he reminds you of someone?

Galaxy Quest is fun to watch and I can think of no better homage to Star Trek's classic series or TNG! The actors fall from stardom have them squabbling over the smallest of stuff and ready to chuck in the towel. The fun starts when Nesmith is approached by a race of aliens proclaiming to be "Thermians" led by their completely clueless chief "Mathesar" which is why hes so totally cool. To cut a long story short these guys have completely confused ideas about Galaxy Quest's TV show."

The thing is see Mathesar's race actually believes in the crew of the NSEA Protector and has built them a REAL STARSHIP that can fly in outerspace!  He calls Galaxy Quest's adventures: The real world "historical documents" giving Nesmiths crew the chance to redeem themselves in the eyes of gullible fans who've been worshipping them for years. Most fans and geeks would probably flip out at the prospect of being aboard a real spaceship surrounded by aliens but not Tech Sgt. Chen played by Tony Shalhoub.

Hi guys. Listen, they're telling me that the generators won't take it, the ship is breaking apart and all that. Just FYI.

The viewscreen goes black. The ship ROARS forward.

ALEXANDER Yells: We've got to stop!

Things only get better when the evil villain SARRIS (whos one mean, ugly, reptile) shows up and to blazes with the rest of the Galaxy. Check out the creepy smiling aliens with those sharp teeth! So who's my favorite martian? Thermian Mathesar! Logic out the airlock, thats my story and I'm sticking to my guns.

Who's your favorite alien?

Does Capt Jason Nesmith remind you of anyone?

By Grabthar's hammer, by the suns of Warvan, you shall be avenged!

Star Trek Into Darkness Condition Green

J.J. Abrams said recently Star Trek Into Darkness begins with a group of people [USS Enterprise crew] being tested in a way they have never been tested before.

Away missions are risky business. Vulcan's are experts in logic, well equipped to purge themselves of all human emotions or so you would think. These guys are the smart ones. Humans on the other hand are prone to emotional impulses which is why we screw up so much. But how logical is it to descend into a scalding hot volcano in a bionic suit? Remember, Mr Spock in particular followed the teachings and philosophies of Surak:

Logic and Emotional Control. His cunning ancestors were an extremely violent race of people who waged almost constant warfare against each other. Technological leaps in Vulcanian society pushed the species to near extinction which now ironically, thanks to J.J. Abrams new movie timeline, is now scattered across the galaxy. Now, I'm not getting all logical on you but shouldn't Dr McCoy be cutting in, complaining right about now?

'Wheres the D*M logic in lowering yourself into a violently active volcano, Spock? Good God man, have you lost your vulcan mind?'

Star Trek Into Darkness will likely appeal to naughty young minds exploring new frontiers, so its neat Uhura(played by Zoe Saldana) and Spock are all wrapped up in each other. Uhura pecks her vulchie and Spock's all set for his volcano gig. Freeze the volcano and rescue the Nibiru creature inside without being detected or blowing the prime directive. Sounds simple doesn't it?

All helmsman Sulu had to do was flick a few switches controlling the shuttlecrafts descent and altitude above the lava flow. Spock's dangling off a cable and then Sulu (played by John Cho) goofs up big style by losing his nerve. Can you believe it? Spock should have fallen to his death, leaving behind a fazed Sulu aboard the shuttle trying to figure out what went wrong. Heck yeah, it had to be the intense heat blitzing the shuttles impulse engines didn't it? We knew that!!!

Maybe this is where Pavel Chekov should chime in with, 'I can do zat!'

Bruno Mars The Lazy Song

Heres a classic Nimoy for you to enjoy. If you love Star Trek then feast your eyes on this epic parody, It made perfect sense as I crawled out of bed today to go to work. I actually found myself smiling and humming the tune, LOL. 'Today, I don't feel like doing anything.' sung by Bruno Mars.

Any ideas on how to resist lazy yearnings?

or is it better to joint long and prosper?

Star Trek Goof Ups

Its always fun meeting and geeking out with strange new lifeforms at sci-fi conventions. Now lets warp back in time. Heres 'Telstars' masterful spin on Star Trek in January 1975. Its such a classic goof up, its why I want to thank Fred over at MyStartrekScrapbook whos on sabbatical  Give Fred a shout out when you get a chance!

The National Star, Telstar published a story about 'Star Trek Monsters' invading the city! which is pretty cool in my book, except these monsters look a little bit suspect!

Its 1975 remember, drug crazed 'Kiss' fans boldly trekked out to New York's Americana Hotel with no worries about making spectacular sensations of themselves. Ask yourself, who in their right mind does this stuff? The 'Kiss' fan on the right is decorated with a glittery tinsel garland!

Admittedly these guys do look perfect for Halloween or even the circus. I mean, just look at how they're dressed. When I first clapped eyes on these strange sensations I nearly burst myself laughing.

Some of the girls outfits were so skimpy cameramen were tripping over their wires.

Read Fred's news clipping below.

The real kicker comes when 'Telstar' MISTAKES our glittery 'Kiss' friends invading the city....... (drum roll) for actual Star Trek Fans!!!

What are your favorite science fiction goof ups?

Is Telstar's slipshod reporting a case of mistaken identities or do real Star Trek 'Monsters' exist in our universe, maybe right next door to you?

Merry Trekmas

Remember the olden days, 3 years ago when Leonard Nimoy hosted Star Trek's movie premiere in Austin, Texas at the Alamo Draft Theater? Star Trek's much loved classic vulcan ran away with the show. Fans were originally invited to a screening of the 1982 film "The Wrath of Khan" with the 10 minute preview of J.J Abrams star trek 2009 movie. Then the fun starts, 'What happened to the film?' queried Leonard Nimoy.

Someone answers, 'It went on fire!'

The Mystery and suspense was simply wonderful sending electrified trekkie vibes blasting off into space.

'Wouldn't you rather see the whole movie?'  funs Leonard...

Robert Orci, Alec Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof originally voiced concerns about taking on trek because of its established sci-fi weight. Since 2009 J.J. Abrams has us all believing that Star Trek's original story details are unnecessary. I love watching these videos because they're FUN, NOSTALGIC and its CHRISTMAS!

Star Trek Into Darkness Teaser Facts

Today Trek is boldly going into the depts of darkness. Its different and dare I say, exciting. The new Star Trek Into Darkness teaser has an awesome minute less than its predecessor, now beaming into theaters all over the nation. The amazing USS Enterprise NCC 1701 was hiding apparently, submerged on the planet Nibiru, under water no less, so boldly NOT exploring anything. Instead she sits there, we're talking DEEP, UNDERCOVER and get this... the reason? is to preserve Nibiru's natural development by upholding the Prime Directive!!!

So I'm reserving judgement until Trek's Into Darkness premieres on May 17th 2013. I have to admit, being just a wee trek fanboy, Star Trek's new teaser trailer has raised allot of questions in my mind over the weekend.

QUESTIONS

1. Whos owns the mystery hands separated by the glass?
2. Cryogenic frozen pods smacks of a Kahn connection. Is there some poor unfortunate inside these things?
3. What is the Nibiru volcanic creatures purpose? Could it be the same as the whales in Star Trek IV, the Voyage Home?
4. Why did Kirk zap the squeaking biped creature? Maybe it just wanted to snack!
5. A starship takes a nosedive into water like something out of thunderbirds and I'm wondering, Has Kirk hijacked the USS Enterprise NCC 1701 again to go on a heroic rescue spree?

6. Why is Chekov wearing a Red Shirt. Will he say, 'I can do zat!?'
7. Its official Benedict Cumberbatch is John Harrison but why is he locked up in brig confinement?
8. Klingons are the tip of the spear! Whats their involvement and with whom?
9. Will the starship under water last long enough or end up like the most forgotten car in Earth's history and rust to death? Is this the USS Enterprise, Kirk and Bones take cover aboard, because it looks like the titanium hull has all the integrity and strength of a piece of plasticine. Poor Scotty!
10. Is Spock going to say goodnight from inside a firey volcano?
11. Did you find Uhuras and Spock's farewell kiss touching? Will Uhura save her vulchie or let him fry?
12. Has the volcanic creature got special powers?

A wonderful mix of trekkers and Hobbit fans packed into the audience dying to see Bilbo Baggins, Smaug and the tunnel creature Gollum on Friday. What wonderful sorcerery, shapeshifting, and wizardry I thought and all with, Goblin and Orc fans surrounding me. Weird. Awesome. I'm a trekkie, d-m it! I shouldn't be feeling this way. LOL. The accents were easy enough to follow but I really beamed in for IMAX for one reason only. To catch the latest scoop on Star Trek Into Darkness.

Trekmovie, I09 and Screenrant do a brilliant job dishing the latest trek spoilers for every sci fi fan who lives, sleeps and eats over Star Trek on planet earth. So why should they have all the fun?

J.J. Abrams is directing Star Trek Into Darkness off a screenplay by Alex Kurtzman, Damon Lindelof and Roberto Orci. Starring Chris Pine, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, Anton Yelchin and Simon Pegg.
Star Trek Into Darkness hits cinemas in (regular and IMAX 3D) on May 17th, 2013.

What did you like about Star Trek's teasers over the weekend? Who is your favorite Star Trek Into Darkness character? Do you think the hands 'farewell' will make you cry?

Abrams Trek Into Darkness With Fan

Star Trek director J.J. Abrams had a fireside chat with a fellow movie/trek fan during the week. I must say it was exciting to see him hanging out with a fellow trekker. Abrams revealed Star Trek Into Darkness is clearly for movie fans, telling us theres plenty of stuff in the movie for trek fans to enjoy also, expounding on extra tid bits about the villain. Heres the entire transcript.

Trekker: The shock that we've seen in the Japanese trailer and we've seen in the foreword trailer of two hands separated by glass, of course for any trek fan that feels like Star Trek 2: Wrath of Khan and you have to know that, you're a smart man.

Abrams: Of course, but heres the thing, (pause) This movie you know was not made for Star Trek fans, it was made for movie fans but if you're a Star Trek fan, I think you'll be really happy, theres allot of stuff in here for you. (WOO HOO! I'm SOOOO EXCITED,) umm but we couldn't just make the movie only for fans of Star Trek. The thing about the movie that I love also is we didn't even make it for fans of the first film we did. You know allot of sequels I've seen, eh tend to assume you love the characters and know them really well and you know get off being in the movie, sort of to a fast start where you don't have any sense of investing in the character from the beginning. So we try and treat this as a movie that works on its own, certainly its a sequel, certainly if you saw the first movie great, you don't have to seen the first film. So this movie is kinda its own thing but there are definitely nods to prior trek lore in the film.

Trekker: Benedict's character which obviously you know has been subject to much umm speculation... Abrams: ehem (in agreement) Trekker: ...his name is John Harrison. Harrison is the name of the character on 'Space Seed' (Star Trek's classic series) and is that something I'm reading way too much into or is that coincidence?

Abrams: sighs in amusement: God you're such a geek
.
Trekker: grins and chuckles, I went to Star Trek conventions don't act surprised...

Abrams: I love it. Ehhh rather than.. you know, answer anything that would sort of give away the fun of the movie, I would say the character Benedict plays, eh, you know, he he brings, I mean, such an incredible like power. His voice alone is unbelievable eh, you know. I actually just as a joke should have had him read the lunch menu.

Trekker laughs and jests, That could have been the first teaser.

Abrams: I'm telling you it would have been like egg salad sandwich. He makes anything sound great. eh, he brings such a force to it that, eh, I think when you see the movie, hopefully this character, all speculation aside, will be really compelling not because of any connection to anything you know...past but because of kind of who he is and what he thinks of.

Trekker: Is his character (Benedict) shrouded in mystery in the film or are his motivations and back stories part of a plot or do we know who he is from the get go?

Abrams: No no no, the whole thing, not just his back story but his agenda, his plan, his secret, all of that is what I think, for me at least, makes him such a frightening and cool villain... but also, the real villains, when they're not just 2d, you know, angry vengeful types, eh, don't see themselves as the bad guy. They are the good guy and have complete rationale and motivation. So I think true to form, the character you know, that Benedict plays, you know has an absolute sense of right and wrong, and he's on the right side.'

Is it possible Star Trek's Into Darkness villain is a Gary Seven character? (read last bit) hehe.
Do you think Abrams is the master puppeteer?
