STAR WARS THE FORCE AWAKENS has grossed $1.16 billion worldwide which cost $350million to make. Its so good people are seeing it three, four times - Go see it!

The movies world premiere took place at Los Angeles on Dec 14th with a razzmatazz of invited guests, Stormtroopers, Chewy, R2D2, CP3O, J.J. Abrams, George Lucas and legions of fans swarming up to the red carpet. The films movie director J.J. Abrams even got in on the action pausing to take a selfie of himself with some fangirls.

VERDICT? I must confess, the sheer size and attention to detail is amazing. The movie is mixed with an exciting new and spectacular old feeling which has made it a hit. So big in fact, Mark Hamill is warning fans not to fall for fake autographs. Heres a great shot of Star Wars 501st Legion taken in Singapore. Look how low pitched their rifles are slung.

I guess Vaders Stormtroopers can't shoot it out with rebel factions at the opening première. Vaders advancing legion gives the Jedi a chance to break a leg and get the best front row movie seats.

Hey these guys aren't Jedi's! What happened to the good guys? Were you one of Jedi or the Sith? Did you wear your uniform? Spot any Trekkies hiding in the audience?

May the Force be with You -  Live Long and Prosper.

Star Trek Beyond's Trailer

Star Trek Beyond's - trailer 1 is here, finally. Its showtime with the new USS Enterprise NCC 1701 crew tearing up some alien world and btw, they've gone and wrecked the bl**dy ship again!!! Earlier in the year we speculated the skunk lady (Sofia Boutella) would be contending with Star Trek's fearsome villains, WELL, we were right!

Here's Star Trek's killer gazelle fighting a Jem Hadar type alien in Star Trek Beyond. Doesn't she look great?

"This is where the frontier pushes back." Heres Idris Elba's character "Kraal" speaking from the chaos.  The dude actually looks like Satan.. (I reckon the reason Worf was so popular is because he looked real, fans liked the moving face and identified with the Klingon.) Kraal is a different alien altogether so you'll have to decide.

So now we've no ship, no crew and a bewildered Captain Kirk pondering his faith having stuffed up command for a 3rd movie in a row.

Seriously, does new age Kirk know what hes doing? LOL I sure hope Kirk doesn't turn out like Captain Nesmith in Galaxy Quest. Remember him? Hilarious - which likely points at where Star Trek Beyond is going into the future -

The world première of the film kicks off Star Trek's 50th anniversary celebrations on July 22nd 2016. Is Idris Elba's Kraal on a thrill to kill spree? Is it written in the stars for the USS Enterprise NCC 1701 to turn into a blazing fireball?

Will Keenser save the day? - I sure hope so, trekkers. Live long and Prosper!

Beyond Star Trek and Star Wars

Star Trek Beyond is the third movie in JJ Abrams reboot trilogy directed by (fast and furious) Star Trek kid Justin Lin. The plot of Star Trek Beyond is still a mystery. Will we be seeing Klingons, Romulans, Vulcans or any other familiar alien races?

1. It seems the Star Trek kid is keeping stump, curse him.
2. We do know Sofia Boutella and Idris Elba are getting their alien on for the movie.
3. Fiona Vroom is playing the Green Orion Girl.
4. Joe Taslim, Lydia Wilson, Sofia Boutella, Idris Elba have Top Secret identities according to IMDB.
5. Star Trek Beyond has Twenty Five stuntmen and women.

The latest news is Captain Kirk's USS Enterprise NCC 1701 is departing at the end of STID to primarily explore new worlds and civilisations.

"They (USS Enterprise NCC 1701) haven’t really gone on their five-year mission, so what we experienced in the TV show hasn’t been touched on yet. That sets up an opportunity for exploration and the deeper you go, the more you are examining humanity. Those are the things that I absorbed as a kid and hope to tap into and embrace and celebrate."

Now with the release of Star Trek's New Series in January 2017 fans want to know: Is Star Trek's New CBS Series set in Gene Roddenberry's Prime Universe or J J Abrams reboot universe? and what about Star Trek Beyond? When are we getting our first official Star Trek Beyond trailer?

QUESTION: So which universe are you hoping for trekkie, G R Prime-verse or Abramsverse?

Which epic empire, Star Wars or Star Trek deserves to rule supreme over the entire Galactic Federation of Planets? “Star Trek,” which will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2016, is one of the most successful entertainment franchises of all time. So don't let that influence you.

What is your final say? Which movie is going to cry havoc at the Box office and let slip the dogs of war!  Live Long and prosper, Terrans.

It's officially official. Paramount Pictures, Skydance, Bad Robot and IMAX Corporation have confirmed that Star Trek Beyond will be digitally re-mastered into the immersive IMAX format and released in IMAX theaters worldwide beginning July 22, 2016.

Star Trek's Female Pioneers

Communications Officer Lieutenant Uhura

In Star Trek TOS, Nichelle Nichols is known as Lieutenant Uhura on the starship USS Enterprise NCC 1701. Crucial for making first contact with alien worlds by establishing incoming and outgoing communications, Uhura opened hailing frequencies with alien lifeforms right from the beginning, alerting the bridgecrew keeping them up-to speed with all the latest subspace news. Shes 83 in December God bless her.

Dr Beverly Crusher

In Star Trek TNG, Dr Beverly Howard Crusher (Gates McFadden) is the Chief Medical Officer of the Galaxy Class USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D. When Data discovers Crushers secret she nearly flips out. "I don't ever want to be known as the Dancing Doctor again". Every trekker worth their latinium knows Mc Fadden is a real dancer, director, teacher, choreographer and a dynamic healing influence aboard Captain Picard's Federation Flagship.

Captain Kathryn Janeway

In Star Trek's 20th Anniversary Voyager Magazine, the Winter edition states "Women were still rare as leading action characters and the the typical kickass female combined her toughness with youth and a subtext of sexual availability."

So along comes Star Trek Voyager in 1995 with Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) with her "abrasive authority" and squeaky nasal voice. Janeway is strong willed and sound provided she gets her high intake of coffee, black. So was Janeway the first woman to kick butt in Star Trek?

Seven of Nine

Seven of Nine is the first female cyborg of note in Star Trek. Its fair to say she makes quite the impression and fainted four times until they got her uniform specs just right. Now that must have been a tough job! Lol -  I've written loads about Jeri Ryan here and here.

1987 Proof: Beverly Crusher was on the scene only feet away
from Armus, one of the most evil lifeforms in the galaxy.

So lets rewind to 1987- Star Trek The Next Generation warps onto our TV screens. In the 23rd episode "Skin of Evil" CMO Dr Beverly beams down with the Away Team - Data, Geordi, Riker and Chief of Security Tasha Yar to Vagra II in 2364. Here Beverly is on the front lines and meets a terrifying Armus. -  I mean this dude was BIG and SLIMY and it SPOKE! You can bet all your trekkie autographs, toys and memorabilia the landing party were totally freaked out! Well maybe not Data.

"Data, somethings got me!"  "Touch him and he dies!"

Crushers tricorder scans reveal a very powerful dark creature of limitless pure evil while Commander Riker is dragged screaming into the creatures pool of black goo.

Ship's Counsellor Deanna Troi - "I felt her die".

Meanwhile, the ships Betazoid, Counsellor Deanna Troi (Marina Sirtis) is trapped/held prisoner in her crashed Shuttlecraft by Armus while Yar is instantly killed by a flick of the creatures power.

Chief of Security Lieutenant Tash Yar

In my book, it takes nerves of steel and expertise to cope with hostile lifeforms like Armus. But did Tasha Yar (Denise Crosby) cross the line? I remember how shell shocked trekkers were when Yar died. It looked pretty hopeless because lets face it, it was. Yar's death was tragic and meaningless. She even says so herself in Yesterdays Enterprise.

Our good Dr Crusher beams Yar's broken body back to Sickbay and desperately tries to microvolt her brain back to life. Sadly Yar's injuries were too great but what a grand exit. "That thing just sucked the life right out of her."

Jadzia Dax

Last but not least, Niners will recall Jadzia Dax is killed in "Tears of the Prophets", the finale of the sixth season of Deep Space Nine. When asked how she would like Jadzia Dax to be remembered, Terry Farrell said, "wisely mischievous."

Which of Star Trek's female trailblazers gets your vote?

The Triumph of the Future

Star Trek's original creators invented a TV Science Fiction series bursting with imagination. Its underlying concept embraced a future about the triumph of good over evil. Earth is a unified, peaceful planet (belonging to a Federation) where hunger, war and poverty no longer exist. The job of the starship USS Enterprise NCC 1701 and her crew was to spread that democratic, philosophy to the stars, seek out new lifeforms and boldly go in peace.

Star Trek's future is a place where man has ceased squabbling, where Earth has been transformed into a garden, where robots ten times stronger and smarter than us strive to be human. Its an optimistic future, an utopian one and its not too much of a stretch to imagine that people love watching Star Trek, because at some level, they'd like to live in a place like that.

Star Trek and Dr Whos Doctors

"You owe me something, you do realise that - don't you?"
"Not Now Doctor. Please!!!"

In 1997 Dr Who had eight doctors and so did Star Trek. Heres Treks run down: Dr Philip Boyce, Dr Mark Piper, Dr Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Dr Christine Chapel, Dr Beverly Crusher, Dr Katherine Pulaski, Dr Julian Bashir, and the EMH - Voyager's Emergency Medical Hologram. If you include the EMH on the USS Enterprise NCC 1701-E then thats nine but wait what about Dr Who's Peter Cushing and Richard Hurndall?

So which sci fi genre wins?

Given recent success with bigger and worse block buster movies and spin off TV series -  Which Sci Fi Genre, Star Trek or Dr Who has the most doctors?

Star Trek Beyond Mission

Hey Trekkers, haven't you heard Star Trek Beyond is gearing up for its 5 year mission?

The Villain - Big Bad Elba has a few scenes with Mr Spock.

1. F is for fresh new territory as the USS Enterprise NCC 1701 seeks out furious new lifeforms.
2. Fast, trektastic, fun adventures sounds so good. So whats the secret ingredient?
3. Director Justin Lin is power propelling the movie but I suspect Chris Pine/Captain Kirk knows why Sofia Boutella is a bleached out alien!

4. The Enterprise cast is back for a third run in strange lands away from Starfleet HQ. So be jolly and laugh it up with Dr McCoy's finagle folly.
5. Just remember Trekkies, trek out and party! Star Trek Beyond opens on the 22nd July 2016 -

Kelloggs Gorn Flakes

Hey Trekkers, haven't you heard of Kellogg's Gorn Flakes?

1. G is for the thick crunch of flakes which tastes so good.
2. Strawberries, saurian brandy and rocks add punch. So whats the secret ingredient?
3. Well you got me but I suspect Captain Gorn knows -
4. Judging from Captain Kirk's expression, it looks like "Tiberius" wants to know too.
5.  Just remember trekkies, take it easy with Kelloggs Gorn Flakes.

Simon Peggs Geekspeak

Simon Pegg apologised recently for making geeky comments which I think are interesting. Oh well, I guess nobody's perfect. Whats the big deal anyway? He was only speaking his mind.

Despite his reputation as a poster boy for geeks, he told Radio Times magazine:

“Before Star Wars, the films that were box-office hits were The Godfather, Taxi Driver, Bonnie and Clyde and The French Connection – gritty, amoral art movies.

“Then suddenly the onus switched over to spectacle and everything changed … I don’t know if that is a good thing.”

Pegg, who played chief engineer Scotty in the recent Star Trek films, added:

“Obviously I’m very much a self-confessed fan of science fiction and genre cinema but part of me looks at society as it is now and just thinks we’ve been infantilised by our own taste.

“Now we’re essentially all consuming very childish things – comic books, superheroes. Adults are watching this stuff, and taking it seriously.

“It is a kind of dumbing down, in a way, because it’s taking our focus away from real-world issues. Films used to be about challenging, emotional journeys or moral questions that might make you walk away and re-evaluate how you felt about … whatever.

“Now we’re walking out of the cinema really not thinking about anything, other than the fact that the Hulk just had a fight with a robot.”

The Mission: Impossible star said he wanted to take on more dramatic roles.

“Sometimes (I) feel like I miss grown-up things,” he said. “And I honestly thought the other day that I’m gonna retire from geekdom.

I see the need to analyse... MUST A-N-A-L-Y-S-E ,,,, error error!!!! does not compute... (Sparks flying) Please! someone feel free to interpret - So much meaningful geekspeak here to analyse.... HELP!

Geek long and Prosper, bloggies, geeksters, nerdlings and trekkers. I think thats eveyone, lol.

Idris Elba - Groundbreaking Villain

Star Trek Beyond - The thirteenth movie directed by Justin Lin is currently filming in futureland - the city of tomorrow, Dubai. Wide speculation is running rife about Star Trek's new bad guy, Idris Elba. Since the news broke about "Beyonds" antagonist, The BIG QUESTION remains UNANSWERED.

Who's the most likely villain to take out Captain Kirk's (Chris Pine) USS Enterprise NCC 1701?

Whats his name? Idris Elba knows only hes not telling!!! Earlier in the year, I reported Sofia Boutella is contending with Star Trek's fearsome villains - 007 style -  as the perfect sexy killer machine with secret moves to blow us away - hehe.

So who is Star Trek's Mr Evil? and whats the beef this time round?

Heres what Simon Pegg and Idris Elba have told us so far - thanks to MTV.

SIMON PEGG: That’s not true…I heard there’s a rumor he’s [Idris Elba] been spoken to about stuff, so he may be in the film, but he won’t be a Klingon or maybe he will.

"You’ve never seen me play a character like this."

"It’s quite an interesting journey, which I think is groundbreaking for the franchise. But, it still keeps with the ’classic bad guy is a classic bad guy’ tone."

“Simon [Pegg] and the team have written a very interesting, complex journey for my character,”

"I think Star Trek has prided themselves as being quite classic when it comes to villains, like ‘he’s a guy who wants to end the world."

It seems details for Idris Elba’s mysterious role are being kept hidden somewhere on Ceti Alpha V.

Is Idris Elba cool enough to tell us who MR EVIL really is? You decide. Unless Elba spills the beans, I'm calling him Mr Evil.

Its over to you trekkers, trekkies and bloggies. Whats your best guess?
